• FFMPEG 2 Videos transcoded and side by side in 1 frame ?

  I have 2 videos : HEADSHOT.MOV and SCREEN.MOV. They are both large files and I am looking to both shrink (size, bitrate, etc) and place these two side by side in the same, very wide, video frame. The end result would be that when you play the output_video.mp4, you would have a very wide frame with both videos in sync and playing at the same rate.

  Here is the syntatically incorrect version of what I am trying to do :

  ffmpeg -i HEADSHOT.MOV -t 00:02:00 -acodec libfaac -ab 64k -vcodec libx264 -r 30 -pass 1 -s 374x210 -vf "movie=SCREEN.MOV [small]; [in][small] -an -r 30 -pass 1 -s 374x210 overlay=10:10 -t 00:02:00 [out]" -threads 0 output_movie.mp4

  In the above example, I also tried to set a test movie duration for 2 minutes which raises another question, What is the best way to handle 2 movies of varying length (if they are close) ?

• FFMpeg used in a C# MVC 3 app

  I'm slowly going mad here and I'll apologise now as this question is going to be vague but I'm really struggling with getting video converting working reliably with FFMpeg. I've tried a few different wrappers but they all seem to go the same way.

  What I mean by that is unreliable converting (told you it would be vague), one time it will convert a video fine with no problems then the next it will just create a empty file. One solution I have tried is http://jasonjano.wordpress.com/2010/02/09/a-simple-c-wrapper-for-ffmpeg/ with unreliable results. I've currently even tried to get a trial version of a paid solution working (Media Handler by http://www.mediasoftpro.com/) with no joy either. I've worked on this for nearly the whole week and I've still go no closer to a reliable solution. Anyone with any help about anything really would be appreciated as I'm slowly going insane.

• How to salvage a gigantic, possibly corrupt, AIFF file ?

  Due to a Sound Track Pro glitch, I have a problematic AIF file. It plays fine in QuickTime Player, and is about 1 hour 50 mins long. However :

  • It's 3.81GB in size, whereas (I believe) AIF files are only supposed to be 2GB or smaller.
  • iTunes refuses to play it.
  • Logic Pro gives the error message "party-mix.aif is empty!" when I try to import it.
  • VLC will open and play the file, but it ends after an 1 hour (I guess this is the 2GB point).

  • Attempting to transcode using ffmpeg to Ogg gives the errors,

    [aiff @ 0x102051000] max_analyze_duration 5000000 reached at 5001333

    ....

    [pcm_s16be @ 0x10205a200] invalid PCM packet

    but the resulting file plays in VLC up till 1 hour, when it ends.

  • Attempting to transcode using ffmpeg to MP3 gives similar results as Ogg, except that the number of channels must reduced from 6 to 2. This is odd because it was a stereo project - where the extra 4 channels came from I have no idea.
  • There are a few places where the audio has been very noticeably sped up.

  My question : how can I transcode this frankenstein monster to MP3 without losing the second half ? I am running Mac OS 10.6.8.
