  • Is there a way to speed up the FFmpeg command '-filter_complex' ?

    31 août 2017, par Emma

    When using ffmpeg to re-encode videos, this is pretty fast. But when using the -filter_complex command the process slows down to real time. Is this process bound to the CPU or GPU ? Does anyone know if there is any way to speed this up using the GPU ?

    The full call is the following :

    ffmpeg.exe
    -i video_0_0.mp4 -i video_0_1.mp4 -i video_0_2.mp4 -i video_0_3.mp4
    -filter_complex
       "color=c=black:size=1920x1080 [base];
       [0:v] setpts=PTS-STARTPTS, scale=960x540 [upperleft];
       [1:v] setpts=PTS-STARTPTS, scale=960x540 [upperright];
       [2:v] setpts=PTS-STARTPTS, scale=960x540 [lowerleft];
       [3:v] setpts=PTS-STARTPTS, scale=960x540 [lowerright];
       [base][upperleft] overlay=shortest=1 [tmp1];
       [tmp1][upperright] overlay=shortest=1:x=960 [tmp2];
       [tmp2][lowerleft] overlay=shortest=1:y=540 [tmp3];
       [tmp3][lowerright] overlay=shortest=1:x=960:y=540"
    -q 4 -y
    "test.mp4"

    output of the command :

    ffmpeg.exe -i video_0_0.mp4 -i video_0_1.mp4 -i video_0_2.mp4 -i video_0_3.mp4 -filter_complex "color=c=black:size=1920x1080 [base]; [0:v] setpts=PTS-STARTPTS, scale=960x540 [upperleft]; [1:v] setpts=PTS-STARTPTS, scale=960x540 [upperright]; [2:v] setpts=PTS-STARTPTS, scale=960x540 [lowerleft]; [3:v] setpts=PTS-STARTPTS, scale=960x540 [lowerright]; [base][upperleft] overlay=shortest=1 [tmp1]; [tmp1][upperright] overlay=shortest=1:x=960 [tmp2]; [tmp2][lowerleft] overlay=shortest=1:y=540 [tmp3]; [tmp3][lowerright] overlay=shortest=1:x=960:y=540" -q 4 -y "test.mp4"

    What I am trying to do is a compress a screen capture video but with just RGB data.
    The steps I am currently taking are ;

    This captures the screen on my mac. To the best of my knowledge, this creates a lossless file and I have compared screen shots that confirm this.
    The next step is where I think I have an issue.
    Because I want to run the compression on raw RGB data I need to convert the MKV to an RGB file ;

    ffmpeg -i ~/Desktop/RGB.mkv -c:v rawvideo -pix_fmt rgb24 -crf 0 -ss 00:00:03 -to 00:02:01 -q 0 -y ~/Desktop/out.rgb

    Codec AVOption crf (Select the quality for constant quality mode) specified for output file #0 (/Users/danielcarter/Desktop/out.rgb) has not been used for any stream. The most likely reason is either wrong type (e.g. a video option with no video streams) or that it is a private option of some encoder which was not actually used for any stream.

    Once I have this I can then compress and decompress successfully. I then get a working file to play back using ;

    But here I have pixel variance. My guess is there is a RGB-YUV-RGB conversion happening somewhere but I am not smart enough to work out where.
    If any of you can help I would forever grateful.

    Here is a picture of the two stills side by side that shows the differences ;

    If you need anything more I can post it also.

  • How to merge list of videos with frame specifiec order using ffmpeg ?

    9 décembre 2015, par Il'ya Zhenin

    I have a list of files :

    even_0.avi
    odd_0.avi
    even_1.avi
    odd_1.avi
    ...
    even_n.avi
    odd_n.avi

    And I want to merge them in a single video file in such a way, that zero frame would be taken from even_0.avi, first frame from odd_0.avi, second - from even_0.avi and so on.

    And if all frames in even_0.avi are taken, then next frame we will take from even_1.avi, next from odd_0.avi, next again from even_1.avi. Basically, when one video ends, we just start taking frames from the next video with prefix "even_" or "odd_".

    I just started using ffmpeg, know, how to simply merge videos, change resolution, fps and so on, but this is beyond my power, so, please, help.
