    MediaSPIP 0.1 beta is the first version of MediaSPIP proclaimed as "usable".
    The zip file provided here only contains the sources of MediaSPIP in its standalone version.
    To get a working installation, you must manually install all-software dependencies on the server.

  • Multilang : améliorer l’interface pour les blocs multilingues

    Multilang est un plugin supplémentaire qui n’est pas activé par défaut lors de l’initialisation de MediaSPIP.
    Après son activation, une préconfiguration est mise en place automatiquement par MediaSPIP init permettant à la nouvelle fonctionnalité d’être automatiquement opérationnelle. Il n’est donc pas obligatoire de passer par une étape de configuration pour cela.

  • Transcode to ogg or webm, writing the file as it goes

    I need to transcode files (mp3, flac, m4a and others) to ogg or webm. (This is because I need them to play on Firefox 60.9 which does not support most of these, and flacs are too large. I cannot update the browser.)

    


    ffmpeg can do the transcoding, but when transcoding to ogg or webm, depending on the exact configuration, either 0 bytes or a few kB is written immediately, and then nothing more until the transcoding is complete (even using -flush_packets 1) — hence I cannot start playing the audio.

    


    By comparison, if I transcode to mp3, the file is written progressively and I can start playing immediately.

    


    Is it possible to transcode to ogg or webm in such a way that the file is written as the transcoding happens, and I can start playing it (almost) immediately ?

    


    Configurations I have tried :

    


    ffmpeg -i orig.m4a -c:a libvorbis -flush_packets 1 vorbis.ogg
ffmpeg -i orig.m4a -c:a libopus -flush_packets 1 opus.ogg
ffmpeg -i orig.m4a -c:a libvorbis -flush_packets 1 vorbis.webm

    This is running on Debian (Raspian stretch, specifically) and I would like to do it without adding dependencies from outside of the Debian/Raspian archives, if possible. Sticking with ffmpeg would be my ideal choice but will consider others.

    


  • Decode h264 video

    I am looking for a way to decode h264 (or indeed any video format) using c#. The ultimate goal is to be able to decode the images and very strictly control the playback in real time. The project I am working on is a non-linear video art piece where the HD footage is required to loop and edit itself on the fly, playing back certain frame ranges and then jumping to the next randomly selected frame range seamlessly.

    



    I have created an app which reads image files (jpegs) in from the disk and plays them on screen in order, I have total control over which frame is loaded and when it is displayed but at full HD res it takes slightly longer than I want to load the images from hard drive (which are about 500k each), I am thinking that using a compressed video format would be smaller and therefore faster to read and decode into a particular frame however I cannot find any readily available way to do this.

    



    Are there any libraries which can do this ? i.e. extract an arbitrary frame from a video file and serve it to my app in less time than it takes to show the frame (running at 25fps), I have looked into the vlc libraries and wrappers for ffmpeg but I don't know which would be better or if there would be another even better option. Also I don't know which codec would be the best choice as some are key frame based making arbitrary frame extraction probably very difficult.

  • Is variable resolution possible in MPEG-4 or Matroska ?

    It's become increasingly common for movies to contain sections with varying aspect ratios. For instance, the movie The Dark Knight is is sometime 16:9 full frame, and at other times 2.40:1 with letter boxing. This is fine when viewed on a 16:9 (or even 4:3) screen, but if you try to watch it on a 2.40:1 screen you will get simultaneous horizontal and vertical letterboxes. Extremely undesirable.

    


    Currently I use MPC-HC, which has a feature where it is able to analyze the video in real time, detect letter boxing, and dynamically crop the video. This works pretty well, but it's kind of an ugly solution. Are there any video formats that allow meta data like image resolution to change throughout the video ?
