how to make ffmpeg transcoding from mjpeg to h264 in real time ?
3 août 2020, par SolskGaerI have a mjpeg stream which output picture 10FPS(cellphone screenshot), and I use the following command to trancode it to a h264 stream and play it on my laptop

ffmpeg -f mjpeg -r 20 -y -i http://127.0.0.1:53293/ -vcodec libx264 -preset veryfast -profile:v baseline -b:v 1024k -r 10 -f h264 pipe:1 | ffplay -i pipe:0

but the output stream is a few seconds behind the cellphone screen. Here is the output of ffmpeg

I don't think the CPU of my laptop is the bottleneck of this process, here is the spec of my laptop

 Model Name: MacBook Pro
 Model Identifier: MacBookPro16,1
Processor Name: 6-Core Intel Core i7
 Processor Speed: 2.6 GHz
 Number of Processors: 1
 Total Number of Cores: 6
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
 L3 Cache: 12 MB
 Hyper-Threading Technology: Enabled
 Memory: 16 GB

but I can't track the reason why this happened. What can I make the output stream be real time ? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

FFmpeg start slowly with multiple instance on nvidia T4 GPU
3 août 2020, par wyWang

environment:

-

- OS:Centos7
- FFMPEG version : 4.2
- GPU : NVIDIA Tesla T4

I have a requirement to work with multiple FFMPEG instance, command like this :

ffmpeg -y -loglevel info -hwaccel cuvid -hwaccel_output_format cuda -c:v h264_cuvid \
 -i http://xx/xxxx.mp4 \
 -c:v h264_nvenc -ss 0 -t 600 out.mp4

and the output like this :

is very fast

But when I try concurrent 10 processes to run this command with different input url, ffmpeg start is very slowly. Then I found FFmpeg is slowly in this step :

Stream mapping:
 Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (h264 (h264_cuvid) -> h264 (h264_nvenc))
 Stream #0:1 -> #0:1 (aac (native) -> aac (native))

When the video is very short(like 0.5s or 1s), FFmpeg takes a long time to start. The actual codec takes less time than the boot time.

I would like to ask what causes this problem ? (Nvidia GPU limit or FFmpeg) .And any way to solve it.

Thanks !

record long videos from multiple webcams with FFmpeg
4 août 2020, par NagamotoI am using

ffmpeg -f dshow -vcodec mjpeg -t 6000 -rtbufsize 2.14748e+09 -video_size 1920x1080 -framerate 60 -i video=camID-0 -f dshow -vcodec mjpeg -t 6000 -rtbufsize 2.14748e+09 -video_size 1920x1080 -framerate 60 -i video=camID-1 -map 0 -c:v libx264 -preset ultrafast -y -r 30 fileName_0.mp4 -map 1 -c:v libx264 -preset ultrafast -y -r 30 fileName_1.mp4

to record video from two webcams. Since the output will be compressed further down the line I am mostly concerned with quality and not losing frames. But after about 2min the real-time buffer is full :

[dshow @ 00000221716edf80] real-time buffer [@device_pnp_\\?\usb#vid_15aa&pid_1555&mi_00#6&b8e4142&0&0000#{65e8773d-8f56-11d0-a3b9-00a0c9223196}\global] [video input] too full or near too full (75% of size: 2147480000 [rtbufsize parameter])! frame dropped!

On the other hand capturing uncompressed video results in huge filesizes (1.3 TB for an hour) but encoding with the settings above the computer can't keep up.
Currently the webcams capture 60fps- which is not a must but I can't set them to anything lower.

How can I record long video (max 1.5h) with good quality while keeping file-sizes manageable ?

ffmpeg -f dshow -list_options true -i video="3.0 USB Camera"
