    Dans la page infos_perso du privé (ou sur sa page d’auteur), il y a un lien dans la boîte d’infos qui mène vers controler_forum, avec le nombre de contributions : « N messages de forum ».

    Intuitivement on s’attendrait à ce que le lien nous mène vers une page qui montre nos messages, mais ce n’est pas le cas, on les voit tous.
    Je propose de rajouter id_auteur=N au lien.

    Ensuite sur cette page, la gestion des auteurs est un inconsistente avec le reste.
    À la base les liens pour filtrer les messages et les boutons d’actions sont situés dans la boîte de raccourcis à gauche.
    En revanche il n’y a pas moyen de filtrer ses propres messages (à part manuellement en ajoutant id_auteur dans l’URL), et une fois qu’un auteur est sélectionné, l’info apparaît dans une boîte au dessus de la liste, au lieu d’utiliser la boîte de raccourcis à gauche. Donc l’interface permet de « défiltrer » par auteur mais pas de filtrer.

    Je propose donc d’ajouter un filtre « mes messages » dans la boîte de raccourcis.

  • Converting mp4 to ogg file format results in a large file

    I have a MP4 file of 83MB (converted from MOV of about 772MB using FFMPEG).
    For the file to be playable from all browsers from HTML5 video tag, I am converting the MP4 to OGG, again using FFMPEG command

    ffmpeg -i object-creation.mp4 -acodec libvorbis -vcodec libtheora -q:v 5 -q:a 5 object-creation-3.ogg

    The result of the above command is a very large OGG file of around 500 MB. I would certainly not want to upload such huge files to Amazon S3 (which I am using for storage, and distribution).

    Is there something I am missing here ? Is the file not compressed enough ?

    Is it possible to have the resultant file of somewhat manageable size like 80-100 MB without any appreciable loss in quality over what is seen in MP4 format ? Why is it that even the source file is 83MB, the resultant file is too big in comparison ?

  • Encoding videos locally or through a third party ?

    We’re in the process on building a view uploading and sharing community right now and we’re currently developing with idea of using a third-party like Zencoder, but what makes Zencoder a better option ?

    I’m sorry if i butcher up what is involved with supporting a local encoding system, so I’ll try to be vague. We plan on releasing with AWS, so why not setup an instance running ffmpeg ? I understand it’s a lot more then simply that, but if is it that difficult to find someone who can put together an instance for encoding ?

    Am I right to assume most third party encoding services seem very unrealistic, price wise, for a web application who specifically focus on encoding large amounts of media ? I did notice Amazon offers an encoding features and would definitely feel more comfortable using them, but even that seems seems redundant.

    I completely understand the cost behind encoding is very real, but I just can’t understand why third-party encoders are so widely accepted.
