  • ffmpeg - how to build paths on windows

    7 décembre 2016, par Thomas

I am building a command line for ffmpeg and I am going crazy. It seems like the tool has an abnormal path system and I can’t find any reliable documentation.

    Using Windows, I have a movie file at : "d :\test\movie.mp4"
if we take the following command :

    fmpeg -i <myfile> -vf "select=gt(scene\,0.5), scale=640:360" -vsync vfr thumbnails%03d.png
    </myfile>

I tried to build the the following ways :

    d:\test\movie.mp4
    d:\\test\movie.mp4
    d\\:\\test\movie.mp4
    d:\\:/test/movie.mp4

It seems like only the 4th one work when called from a C# program, but doesn’t work in command line.

Is there any documentation that explains this properly ? from what I gather, the drive letter has to be followed by double slashed then the column and I can’t figure out the reason.

  • Get video duration of file hosted on Amazon S3

    10 janvier 2020, par Michi

I’m starting a portal which distributes videos. The idea is to upload the videos to Amazon S3 and gather the necessary data using PHP from my server. So far everything works fine... the only thing I could not manage to get is the duration of the video :-( Could anybody give me a hint on how to accomplish it ?

    Thanks,
    Miguel

    UPDATE :

I finally opted to do it using FFmpeg. I have already installed FFmpeg on the server and I’m now trying to execute the command in the shell prior to execute it with PHP. I’m passing it the URL from Amazon (I tried both the cloudfront URL and the S3 URL) but it says that there is not such a directory or file. I’ve seen examples on the web using external files so I expected it to work.

    The command I’m using is

    ffmpeg -i https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/path/to/file.m4v

Is there something I need to configure in order to use external URLs ?

  • How to set packet buffer size with libav ?

28 mai 2019, par Michael Murray

I have written a simple libav program which can read frame packets from a webcam and save them to a file. However, I now want to be able to control when the frame is captured. From what I can gather, when I call avformat_open_input the input stream is created, and frames immediately start being read from the camera to a packet queue ; when the queue is full frames stop being read. I want to be able to set the size of this queue to 1, so that frames are only ever captured when they are asked for. However, I can’t seem to find any documentation outlining how this may be done. The closest thing I could find was the max_muxing_queue_size option, but I can’t figure out where to use this. I have tried putting it in my AVDictionary options, but it didn’t work.

Does anyone have any experience with this ? Or even know if this is possible ?
