  • How to set yuv to full range in a mpeg2video ?

7 mai 2021, par Jefferson Villasan Josol

I've found out that YUV420P has a limited range based on MediaInfo. How can I set that into Full range using ffmpeg ? Does anyone know how to set it into Full ?
I'm currently using mpeg2video -q:v 0 because it has an acceptable quality and small file sizes compared to x264 -crf 0.
Thanks in advance for those who can help me !

Edit : I prefer mpeg2video because it is much faster compared to x264 encoding. And I've also noticed that -q:v 0 is better than -q:v 2. I don't know if it sounds strange but on my phone, the quality is really better if I use the -c:v mpeg2video -q:v 0

  • Java VLCJ canvas and drawing ontop with transparent background

    23 janvier 2013, par Dizzle

I have spent a bit of time researching about whether it is possible to draw on top of a VLCJ movie within a Java application. I have found a few bits of conflicting advice some saying it is not possible and some referencing articles which have moved on oracle.com.

Can someone clarify if it is or is not possible to draw java2d graphics like rectangles/lines which also have transparent backgrounds so the video stream underneath can be viewed whilst the shapes are present on screen ?

If this is not possible with vlcj what would be a good alternative for a linux and windows compatible media player allowing for annotation over a playing video stream ? Please note i do not have to be limited to java but something where i can get re-use out of developed drawing routines for multiple platforms would be ideal.

  • ffmpeg streaming on embedded device [closed]

    18 février 2012, par JoeFrizz

I have a problem with the ffmpeg streaming application.

When I try to dump a RTSP (mp4) stream to a file on my
    desktop (Ubuntu) everything works fine...

What I actually want to do is to download the same stream
with an embedded system (very limited CPU power)...

While I get about 150 fps on the desktop my embedded system loads
about 2 fps only and struggles after downloading
of approx. 150 frames. All the other frames (about 1000 total)
    are dublicated or missing...

Can this problem be fully explained by the weak CPU power
of the embedded system ? Does the RTSP protocol allow streaming
far below the normal rates (my desktop achieves) ?

Are there any tricks to overcome that issue ?
