How to make FFmpeg download only the required segments [closed]
25 juillet, par daniil_I'm developing a tool, that create timelapse. For this purpose I use ffmpeg 7.1.1 verion.
I have a playlist file called index.m3u8 (inside it there are URLs to TS segments—typically around 5,000 of them). Here’s a small excerpt :

I’m trying to extract still images from the stream at specific moments.

When I run a command like :

ffmpeg \
 -analyzeduration 5000000 \
 -probesize 5000000 \
 -err_detect ignore_err \
 -protocol_whitelist file,http,https,tcp,tls \
 -allowed_extensions ALL \
 -f hls \
 -y \
 -ss 11316.719 \
 -i /Users/daniil/Desktop/test/exports/.../index.m3u8 \
 -frames:v 1 \
 -q:v 2 \
 /Users/daniil/Desktop/test/exports/.../frames/frame_00100.png

ffmpeg downloads segments 1 and 2 (presumably to probe the format), and then it downloads two more TS files around the target timestamp.

But as soon as I push the -ss value beyond a certain point—in my case -ss 8487.54—it starts downloading every TS segment from the very start of the playlist up to the one I need. That can easily be 1,000 TS files or more. In other words, when -ss is between 0 and 8374.372, everything works fine, but beyond that it exhibits this strange behavior.

I detected an error downloading a twitch tv stream. I use ffmpeg. That error stops the download, how can I fix it ? [closed]
9 juin, par sort35ofnI wanted to perform a download via ffmpeg of a video streamed live on the Twitch tv platform. I have windows 10 and I use cmd to run ffmpeg.

The command I use to download the concert is :

ffmpeg.exe -i "m3u8-link" -c copy name.ts

I once downloaded with yt-dlp, but noticed that the quality was noticeably lower, at least using the following command :
yt-dlp.exe -f (bestvideo+bestaudio/best) "amazon-channel-link"

That's why I prefer to download with ffmpeg. Normally I haven't had any problems with downloads. But this is already the third time (not continuously/consecutively) that I get this error. That error causes the download of the stream to terminate. It is not like in other occasions that sometimes a .ts fragment (of 3 seconds, for example) has already expired (and is not included in the download) but the download continues.

Is there any way to prevent this error ? Or can I do something so that the download does not stop because of this error ?

And excuse me but I forgot to take a screenshot of the cmd screen, so I don't remember the colors of the letters (it certainly changed the colors of the letters when the error appeared). So I proceed to indicate that the error starts when it says : “ [hls @ 000001edab89e500] keepalive request failed for ”.

Download only a part of the video in the server
19 août 2013, par whiteletters and blankspacesI am building a web application for creating animated gif from youtube videos. These animated gifs will be fews seconds long, but may come from very long videos hosted in Youtube.
After reading and reading, It looks like I should first download the whole video in server, then cut the required part, ( probably convert it), then process it to generate the gif using ffmpeg for example.
Could you please tell me :
Does the whole video should be necessarly downloaded in server ? Or there is a way to ask my server and Youtube Server to exchange only the requested (very small) part of the video ? I think that downloading the whole video will result in bad resources usage, especially in concurrency environnement which will affect performance in my one-server infrascrucure.
What are the alternatives of downloading the video (or part of video) to achieve such goal ? Is there a client side solution for storing data and using similar ffmpeg functionalities ?
