ffmpeg "Underestimated required buffer size"
10 avril 2021, par KajunaI'm seeing this error on some Windows machine when converting an 8K png stream to ProRes 4444 with ffmpeg. The command looks like

ffmpeg -f image2pipe -framerate 30000/1001 -i - -c:v prores_ks -y output.mov

And the output

How could I debug this considering I don't have access to the problematic machine (a user does) ? Could the "not enough frames to estimate rate ; consider increasing probesize" message be related to the problem ?

Thanks

Edit : I increased probesize and that warning disappeared, but the conversion keeps failing with the same error message "Underestimated required buffer size". I can now reproduce this on one of my Windows machines.

Edit 2 : Not a solution but I found out that this problem is gone if using ffmpeg 4.2.3 and was introduced with 4.3

VLC Player shows broken HLS stream with 4k HDR10 mkv
8 avril 2023, par goodkid38I am trying to convert a 4k mkv to an HLS stream but I am not having any luck. I have tried a few ffmpeg commands to try and fix the issue but none have worked. Here are the commands I have tried.

-

- Basic copy command :

ffmpeg -i "video.mkv" -c copy -f hls "plexTemp/out.m3u8"

-

- Command used to see if it was an HDR color issue :

ffmpeg -i "video.mkv" -c copy -pix_fmt yuv420p10le -f hls "plexTemp/out.m3u8"

3. Command used to revert to 8 bit color :

ffmpeg -i "video.mkv" -c copy -pix_fmt yuv420p -f hls "plexTemp/out.m3u8"

-

- I tried removing extra streams and just focusing on audio and video :

ffmpeg -i "out.mkv" -map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:1 -c copy -pix_fmt yuv420p10le -f hls "plexTemp/out.m3u8"

I also saw these warnings when running each command.
Stream HEVC is not hvc1, you should use tag:v hvc1 to set it.

And this

[matroska, webm @ 000001d7921803c0] Stream #12: not enough frames to estimate rate; consider increasing probesize

So I tried increasing the
analyzeduration
andprobesize
and adding the tag like so :
ffmpeg -analyzeduration 10000000 -probesize 10000000 -i "out.mkv" -c copy -tag:v hvc1 -f hls "plexTemp/out.m3u8"

To no avail. Here is what the output looks like on VLC. It's mostly black with a few lines of color that randomly change.

On my TV I see this :

One thing I see that stands out in ffmpegs output is this :

[hls @ 00000207239a9ec0] Opening 'plexTemp/out0.ts' for writing7 bitrate= -0.0kbits/s speed=N/A

Start of video is not labeled as "0" in QuickTime Video from GoPro
26 mars 2020, par John TerragnoliI’m trying to combine four GoPro videos into a single video, and then rotate it 90 degrees. However, the time scales on the bottom of the videos are all wrong. The videos are 17 minutes and 42 second. But the beginning time is labeled as 5:15:20:32 and the ending time is 5:33:01:32. It just looks really weird and I’d like to fix it. After I use ffmpeg to rotate and concatenate the videos, the problem persists. Could it possibly be fixed with Exiftool ?
ffmpeg -safe 0 -f concat -i list.txt -vcodec copy -acodec copy merged_videos.MP4
ffmpeg -i input.mov -vf "transpose=1" output.mov

There is a pretty obvious "stutter" at the 17:42 mark where the two clips are combined. I’ve tried using ffmpeg and iMovie, but both give the same results. The GoPro broke up the event into multiple clips on it’s own so it seems weird that there would be any information missing. Is there any way to get rid of this stutter ?Thanks !
