  • Support audio et vidéo HTML5

    10 avril 2011

  • Generate individual HLS-compatible .ts segments on-demand by downloading as little bytes as possible from a remote input file

    28 juillet 2017, par Romain Cointepas

    I’m trying to generate individual HLS-compatible .ts segments on-demand by downloading/reading as little bytes as possible from a remote input file (hosted on a server supporting byte-ranges requests).

    One of the application for this would be to be able to transcode and play on Apple TV (via Airplay) a remote file that is not Airplay compatible, without having to download the entire file first.

    I am generating the playlist myself, and I have access to the ffprobe results for the remote file (that gives video duration, etc.).

    I have something working that plays via Airplay but with small video and audio glitches between each segments when I use the following command to generate each segment :

    ffmpeg -ss 60 -t 6 -i http://s3.amazonaws.com/misc-12345/avicii.vob -f mpegts -map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0 -c:v libx264 -bsf:v h264_mp4toannexb -force_key_frames "expr:gte(t,n_forced*6)" -forced-idr 1 -pix_fmt yuv420p -colorspace bt709 -c:a aac -async 1 -preset ultrafast pipe:1

    Note : above command is for segment 11.ts, and in the m3u8 playlist I advertise each segment duration as 6 seconds.

    Here is a Youtube video showing the audio/video glitches between segments :
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vMwgbSfsu0

    The segment or hls modules of ffmpeg can’t be used because they both generate all the segments at once.

    I’ve been struggling on this for some days now and I would really appreciate some help !

  • ffmpeg generate m3u8 and segments manually

    1er août 2017, par Darshan Bhandari

    We are developing an application where the m3u8 file should be generated on the fly for a given mp4 video. Can someone please let us know how can we generate the mp4 file on the fly with the exact duration as the segmenter. In our case ffmpeg segmenter is created variable length segments and are of decimal size. For eg :
    #EXTM3U
    #EXT-X-VERSION:3
    #EXT-X-TARGETDURATION:7
    #EXT-X-PLAYLIST-TYPE:VOD

    #EXTINF:5.005,
    test.mp4.ts?start=0.000&end=5.005
    #EXTINF:6.715,
    test.mp4.ts?start=5.005&end=11.720
    #EXTINF:6.548,

    Can someone help us to create such m3u8 file without creating any segments. We will manually create the segments on request.

    Also when we create the segments manually there is a small stuttering (flicker) when the video goes to the next segment. When I read it online, it says it might be due to continuity counter. Can someone please help us fix that too

    Thanks.

  • Play just audio (without launching a window)

    6 août 2017, par Paradise on E

    Is there a way to hide ffplay window on Windows ? I want to play audio files (some of them have video streem as well), but I don’t want a window to appear. Is there any way to hide window completelly ?

    I took a look at their documentationa and I didn’t find a way to do it. I also searched on the internet and didn’t find anything useful. Everyone are asking "Why in the world do you want to hide window..." and similar questions instead of actually posting an answer on how to do it.

    I believe ffplay doesn’t have native way to hide window. So, what are the most easiest alternative ? One of the alternatives would be to download ffplay source code, modify it and recompile it, but it is definitelly not an easy and quick way.

    Is there any way I can launch a process without showing window. It would be great if there is some way to achieve it when ffplay is launched from Node.js (becuase I am using Node.js’s module child_process to play audio files). So, how can I hide ffplay’s window ?

    My current code is following :

    var cp = require('child_process');
    var proc = cp.spawn('ffplay', [
     '-no_banner',
     '-loglevel', 'panic',
     playlist.splice(Math.random() * playlist.length | 0, 1)[0]
    ]);

    Question

    How to hide ffplay’s window ? If it is possible using ffplay native arguemnts (which I didn’t find in ther documentation) then what arguments to use ? If there is no native way, then is it possible to do it using Node.js’s module child_process ? If not, is there any other way I can hide ffplay’s window ? Again, I must note that some of files I play have video stream as well. So, is there any way to hide ffplay’s window ?

    Thanks in advance.
