The ultimate solution to knowing how your business is performing overall
8 janvier 2018, par InnoCraftWould you like to know how your business is performing overall at a glance ? Guess what, you can now do this easily with Roll-Up Reporting.
What is Roll-Up Reporting about ?
Roll-Up Reporting is a premium feature which you can acquire through the Matomo (Piwik) Marketplace. Developed by InnoCraft, the professional company behind Matomo, this plugin will :
- Save you heaps of time and gives you completely new insights
- Make this process easy as pie
- Reflect the structure of your business or organization
1 – Roll-Up Reporting does the maths for you
Yes, you read it right. Compared to having to sum reports of multiple websites manually, you can get aggregated results for your business or departments instantly with a single click directly in Matomo (Piwik). Not only does this save you heaps of time compared to doing this complicated work in a spreadsheet, you also avoid human errors. With this feature, you get a clear overview over all your websites, apps, and shops performances.
For example, if you want to know which referrers bring you the most value across all websites, then you will get the answer in a report. Same results for e-commerce reports, actions, and other metrics.
2 – Easy as pie, no tracking code involved
The best part of this feature is that you do not need to push data through additional tracking code. The setup is simple and made through the UI of the plugin.
3 – Roll-Up Reporting meets even the hardest requirements
You can also create “nested roll-ups”. This feature allows you to create a roll-up consisting of several other roll-ups. With a nested roll-up, you can create a roll-up for each department in your company (and assign all the websites of a department to that roll-up), then group several departments easily into a new roll-up simply by assigning several department roll-ups to this new roll-up.
For example, a company with multiple brands can assign multiple websites to each brand, and then get aggregated results for each brand and for the business overall. As a roll-up is basically the same as a website, you can give users access to a roll-up without having to give them access to each site, and the other way around.
How does it work ?
As with all premium features, this plugin is straightforward to use. Once activated in your Matomo (Piwik) administrator panel, you will notice that when you add a website, you have the choice between two possibilities :
When you select the “Roll-Up” option, a new window will appear asking you which websites and mobile apps you would like to aggregate into a roll-up :
The created roll-up will then be shown just like any other website that you have in Matomo (Piwik). You can create as many roll-up entities as you want.
Features, such as custom alerts, segments, and e-mail reports work for a roll-up just like for any website.
Real-Time reports
One of the most interesting features of Roll-Up Reporting is, that you can view all the Real-Time reports, such as the “Visitors in Real-Time” widget, the “Real-Time Map”, and the “Visitor Log” across several websites making it much easier to keep an eye on your business :
How to get the Roll-up reporting plugin ?
Developed by InnoCraft, the makers of Matomo (Piwik), Roll-Up Reporting is a premium feature which you can purchase on the Matomo Marketplace. You can also try it for free on the Matomo Cloud (formerly Piwik Cloud) for 30 days.

It’s January 28th : Let’s celebrate Data Privacy !
29 janvier 2018, par Matomo Core TeamIt is a special Sunday here for us at Matomo, as today is international Data Privacy Day. The day was created in 2007 to raise awareness of the importance of data privacy for people and businesses worldwide.
What is data privacy about ?
Personal data refers to any data which is collected and can be linked to an individual human being such as phone records, credit card transactions, GPS position, IP addresses, browsing history… So basically, personal data refers to your identity online. That is why you should be highly concerned about sending your personal data (or your customers’ personal data) away. It is important to be aware of who is collecting the information and how it is being used.
What big changes are happening in 2018 ?
New privacy regulations GDPR comes into play next May 2018 : GDPR will bring about some changes (in the right direction) by making people and businesses aware of what data privacy means, and what they should be doing to protect their customers’ privacy. With these new regulations, data privacy awareness is reaching a critical milestone this year.
How can I protect my privacy ?
Here are a few tips to protect your privacy :
- Educate yourself on the importance of privacy : the more informed you are the better.
- Use open source solutions where you can keep full control of your own data (such as NextCloud instead of Dropbox and of course Matomo instead of Google Analytics),
- Experiment with different online services to protect your data privacy, for example using an alternative search engine (such as DuckDuckGo instead of Google) or an alternative email provider (such as ProtonMail).
What’s coming next for Matomo and Privacy ?
Here at Matomo, we are building the leading decentralised open web analytics platform. We’re currently working on new sets of privacy features to make compliance with GDPR a breeze. Stay tuned here to be notified when we launch the new privacy compliance tools !

Does a landscape app preview video uploaded iTunes Connect appear in landscape ?
14 février 2018, par JulesThe video I’ve produced as my app preview appears squashed in portrait orientation, when it should be in landscape.
I’ve created the video for my app using...
xcrun simctl io #{device_udid} recordVideo
My app is landscape only.
The video generated needs to be rotate anti-clockwise 90 degrees, to look correct.
Therefore I have rotated the video using ...
ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -strict 1 -metadata:s:v rotate="90" -codec copy output.mp4
and resized the video with ...
ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -filter:v scale=900:1200 -c:a copy output.mp4
I think the video generated by
simctl
may include the orientation and perhaps I have removed this using ffmpeg.I have contacted Apple support, they have sent a specification that videos must meet and to contact them if I still have problems.
However I’ve not sure if my video has the correct orientation, as it plays fine in QuickTime Player. Alternatively, I’m not sure if iTunes Connect has a bug.
