• How to swtich audio stream with ffmpeg ?

  I have a file which has both english and japanese audio tracks. This is the meta data of the file (using command ffmpeg -i "my_vid.mp4" :

  Per the ffmpeg documentation I'm trying to switch the video's audio output to japanese. However, the output video is still in english (which it was in before). This is my current ffmpeg cmd :

  


  ffmpeg -i "my_vid.mp4" -c copy -disposition:a:1 default "output.mp4"


  


  what am I doing wrong ? Still pretty new to ffmpeg

  With one of the suggestions I tried adding the -map 0 option to my command

  


  ffmpeg -i "my_vid.mp4" -map 0 -c copy -disposition:a:2 default "output.mp4"


  


  but still not change. The meta data for the output video is as follows :

• FFmpeg stream extraction modifies subtitles [closed]

  I am trying to extract the subtitles, edit them and reattach them to the video.
(I need my program to do that so I don't want to use other software)

  


  Command 1

  


  ffmpeg -i video.mkv -map 0:3 -c:s ssa subs.ass

  The problem

  


  After extraction the subtitles seem to be really quick, meaning they are displayed and disappear really quickly.

  


  For example the first subtitle is as follows in srt :

  


  1&#xA;00:00:03,100 --> 00:00:03,560&#xA;<font face="Dominican" size="77" color="#f7f7f7">Within the spreading darkness</font>&#xA;

  


  Now, in srt it also has wrong size but I assume that's because of the conversion from ass to srt.

  


  If I reattach the subtitle file in the video and open it, it is displayed and disappears way too fast and it doesn't match the original subtitles in the video.

  


  (ie, the original video subtitles are showing for at least a second)

  


  Expected behaviour

  


  The subtitles should be displayed for the same duration as the original subtitles.

  It's my first question for ffmpeg related issues so feel free to ask me for anything else you may need.

  


  UPDATE 1

  


  I realized that the subtitles were ok for the timings as they had the same line multiple times, so the problem for not playing is something else.

  So the problem is that VLC doesn't show more than the first subtitle.

  


  The strange thing is when I use the below command

  


  ffmpeg -i video.mkv -i subs.srt -map 0 -map -0:s -map 1 -c copy -c:s subrip out.mkv


  


  Then more lines of the subtitle (but not all) play.

  


  It stops at the 17th line.

  


  I believe that's an encoder's problem ? but I really don't know.

  


  Also what I noticed is that VLC stops the subtitles but Windows Media Player (Windows 11 version) display the subtitles correctly even after the 17th line.

  


  BUT, if I add subtitles from another video they are played correctly in both VLC and Windows Media Player.

  


  Update 2
As @Gyan said in his answer I should use the following command

  


  ffmpeg -i video.mkv -map 0:3 -c:s copy subs.ass


  


  But then if I attach the subs again with

  


  ffmpeg -i video.mkv -i subs.ass -map 0 -map -0:s -map 1 -c copy -c:s ass out.mkv


  


  The subtitles show up to 17th line in both VLC and Windows Media Player.

  


  or

  


  ffmpeg -i video.mkv -i .\subs.ass -map 0 -map -0:s -map 1 -c copy out.mkv


  


  The subtitles do not show up at all. (Not even in Windows Media Player)

  


• How to copy metadata during mp4 conversation with FFMPEG ?

  When I am trying to make a video conversation from .m4v to mp4 :
  I know how to select audio streams as well as a video streams,
  Also I know how to copy a few subtitles from input to output !
  But I can not copy a metadata from input to output !

  In order to get my best result I should read myself all streams title and retype it to new files stream !

      ffmpeg -i input.m4v -map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0 -map 0:a:1 -map 0:a:2 -map 0:s:0 -map 0:s:1 -vcodec h264 -acodec:0 mp3 -acodec:1 mp3 -acodec:2 mp3 -c:s mov_text 
  
  -metadata:s:v:0 title="Main Program" -metadata:s:a:0 title="English Stereo" -metadata:s:a:1 title="Russian DVO CTC Stereo" -metadata:s:a:2 title="Ukrainian DVO 2 + 2 Stereo" output.mp4   

  So as you can see I wrote second line in order to get a result, which is very long written by my hand !
  So please tell me how to copy all streams title from input file to output file without retyping ?

  As I can understand we should find out how to select input file`s stream title....

   Like video stream selection is                        -map 0:v:0   or  -map 0:v:1
  
   such that we should have a metadata title selection   -map 0:m:0   or  -map 0:m:1   

  I don’t know !
  Please help me !
