  • Why ffmpeg hangs encoding a void audio track ?

    23 août 2023, par SkizZO

I've googled an entire day experimenting all possible solutions, but noone had worked.
I have 2 HIK dvr (one is prehistoric vith analogic video). I've made a bash script to retrieve X seconds (as input) of the DVR stored videos (it cut seconds if video ends early) ; also record X seconds of Live view (used for saving Motion Alert in Home assistant).

All works well, BUT i have some issues, and the big one is that when the video has no audio, the download hangs at 9.96 seconds for the old device, and 9.97sec for the new (damn !).

Now let's look at the commands and the logs.

Command : this works with cams with audio, but hangs if cam has an audio silent track ?

    makejob=$(ffmpeg -fflags +genpts -y -ac 1 -channel_layout mono -rtsp_transport tcp -hide_banner -loglevel info -err_detect ignore_err -i  "rtsp://$user:$dvrpasswd@$dvraddress:554/ISAPI/streaming/tracks/${camnumber}01?starttime=$starttime&endtime=$endTime" -map 0:v -map 0:a? -ar 44100 -filter:a "volume=$volume" -t $seconds -acodec aac -vcodec copy $filepathname)

    (A) result Cam with audio : errors too, but works recording both video and audio

I suppose it's due to the missing timestamps. Note that also when there is no audio, there is an audio track in the video. It hangs when trying to encode that void track.

(i will comment with logs where no audio is recorded, it works with some errors... maybe other useful infos are there)

  • FFmpeg conform DASH to YouTube Live Stream requirements

4 septembre 2023, par Aniol Pagès

I'm trying to stream to YouTube using FFmpeg and DASH. I've generated the stream key and I'm successfully sending the generated files to YouTube. However, YouTube refuses the MPD manifest because it has two AdaptationSet (one for video and one for audio), and the documentation specifies that I should use only one for both video and audio

I've tried to use the -adaptation_sets flag unsuccessfully, and also the -map flag.

Here is one of the commands I've tried :
ffmpeg -re -i "/Users/user/Desktop/file.mp4" \        -map 0:v -map 0:a \        -use_template 1 -use_timeline 1 -window_size 5 -min_seg_duration 5000000 \        -f dash dash.mpd

And with the -adaptation_sets flag :
ffmpeg -re -i "/Users/aniolpages/Desktop/2023-09-03 Taller colar filtrar assubtilar.mp4" -map 0 -map 0 -c:a aac -c:v libx264 \ -use_timeline 1 -use_template 1 \ -window_size 5 -adaptation_sets "id=0,streams=v id=1,streams=a" \ -f dash dash.mpd

Has someone been successful to conform the manifest to YouTube requirements ?

    Thank you very much !

  • Use FFMPEG to convert MP4/AAC to MP3 without audio time getting shortened

    10 janvier 2023, par Esenkay07

I've been struggling with extracting the audio from a couple of mp4 files I have. I have tried using all of the different answers posted previously on Stack Overflow, but each of them results in an mp3 file that's shorter than the original mp4.

If anyone has any insights as to what I'm doing wrong, that'd be greatly appreciated, or at the very least why it's not this simple to convert from mp4 to mp3.

I have tried copying the codec and using variable bitrate. The input video is 1:24:56, but the output audio is 1:24:46.

    Command : ffmpeg -i sample.mp4 -c:v copy -q:a 0 sample.mp3

    Output :

    $ffmpeg -i sample.mp4 -c:v copy -q:a 0 sample.mp3
