  Il faut notifier les utilisateurs (et peut être les admins) :

  • lors de la réussite de l’encodage
  • lorsque l’encodage se révèle impossible (essais de X fois)

  Il faut stopper les tentatives d’encodages qui échouent plus de X fois et envoyer un email aux admins afin qu’ils puissent débugguer

  Il faut vérifier périodiquement que la file d’attente ne soit pas bloquées

  Ajouter des appels au journal (fonction du plugin bigbrother ou de SPIP 2.2) pour loguer correctement les encodages

  Discreet Cleaner 5
  Capture, author, encode, and publish multimedia in Real, QuickTime, Windows Media, MP3, DV, and MPEG formats. This package has a copyright date of 2001 (thus predating Flash video by a few years). This software seems to have since been purchased by Autodesk and is up to version 6.5 (which does support Flash video).

  
  
  

  Discreet Plasma
  "Web 3D Design." Package is copyright 2002. Like the last package, this package also makes reference to Discreet being a division of Autodesk. Sure enough, Autodesk purchased them in 1999 and would later rename them Autodesk Media and Entertainment.

  "The Graphics Processing Toolbox." Looking down its list of features on the box copy, I honestly wonder if it can accomplish anything that ImageMagick can’t.

  "Create Flash, HTML & CD-Rom Presentations." Wow, version 7, and with a latest copyright date of 2002 on the box. There’s still a top-Google-hit web page for MatchWare Mediator 9, this one instead emphasizing interactive CDs, HTML, and then Flash.

• Museum of Multimedia Software, Part 1

  Many years ago, I found a boneyard of old software, much of it related to the creation and processing of multimedia. I was permitted to liberate anything of my choosing from this cache. This is the same pile where I found this Apple QuickTime format spec as well as this perfect form factor floppy disc box. So I have been sitting on the stuff for awhile.

  I thought I might get the chance to study it a bit more closely one day. But now I’m interested in getting rid of it. Before I do, it’s more or less traditional for me to photograph it and post it on one blog or another. Also, if you know of any software collection groups who would be interested in taking this stuff off my hands, do let me know.

  Paracomp FilmMaker
  This is easily the most distinctive piece in this collection and it’s easy to see why— the software is packaged in a film cannister. Still sealed, and I don’t have a good reason to open it now.
