  • Heroku ffmpeg buildpack

20 octobre 2015, par Manuel Quintanilla

Putting together the video upload section in my rails app and am having some issues with video play on mobile phones. Im using

    paperclip-av-transcoder, s3 and  Heroku

On my laptop I can visit the page and see the video thumbnails and play the videos only because I have previously installed ffmpeg to my machine.

Remotely on Heroku I’ve set the appropriate buildpacks for ffmpeg and have run push heroku master to install the buildpacks - Now when I visit the page on my mobile iPhone I don’t get a thumbnail but when I play the video it plays - on the other hand when I visit the page on my Android phone I don’t get a thumbnail and the video dose not play but I can upload mp4s on Android.

Check out my set up here : Heroku ffmpeg buildpacks for video uploads

It seems I don’t have the proper buildpack setup or some other heroku setting with ffmpeg.

Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance !

  • ffmpeg - Audio not playing on iOS with transcoded video

    23 juin 2015, par Dev

    I am using Laravel 4.2.

I am working on a project that provides video services. To transcode video (to play on all devices) I’ve used git-hub package php ffmpeg.

By transcoding video, I found it is NOT working with iPhone 5s. I searched for solution and found some changes in parameters passed to the library.

Finally, I come up with the command below that the library uses to transcode the video.

    ffmpeg -y -i video.mp4 -async 1 -metadata:s:v:0 start_time=0 -s 560x320
       -vcodec libx264 -strict experimental -pix_fmt yuv420p -profile:v baseline
       -acodec aac -profile:a aac_low -b:v 466k -refs 6 -coder 1 -sc_threshold 40
       -flags +loop -me_range 16 -subq 7 -i_qfactor 0.71 -qcomp 0.6 -qdiff 4
       -trellis 1 -b:a 256k -ac 2 transcode_video.mp4

The video is playing well but the audio is NOT working on iOS. Hence the video is playing without audio. I am using HTML 5 player to play the video and auto play option is off.

    Any suggestions ?

  • ffmpeg does not copy custom metadata

    20 juin 2015, par e110c0

I’m trying to fix some videos made with an iDevice. The videos have a rotation in the metadata which is only understood by Apple and its software but noone else. Fixing this is quite simple, but I also would like to keep the other metadata in the files like the geolocation.

I tried a couple of versions, all with the same result, e.g. :

    ffmpeg -i input.mov -vf vflip,hflip -map_metadata 0 -metadata:s:v:0 rotate=0  -acodec copy output.mp4

This should work, it already gives the correct preview of metadata :

I also tried to add the one tag I’m interested in by hand with

    -metadata:g location=+48.2683+007.7205+172.710/

with no change in the result.

Output as .mov doesn’t change anything, neither.

Is there any trick to add non-standard metadata ? How do I get the location back in there ?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can give some insight on this.
