  • Convert streaming MPEG-4 raw data to H.264

16 août 2012, par Jonathan Hawkes

I've got a Sony network camera (SNC-RZ25N) that I am trying desperately to get data from in some meaningful format. The documentation says it sends MPEG-4 raw data, but is not more specific than than. I can capture a segment of the stream using curl ( http://techhead.biz/media/tsv.m4v ) and it will play using VLC and ffplay (though it plays too fast in ffplay).

After a day and a half of tinkering, I just discovered that I cannot use ffmpeg to convert this stream directly. For one, the only way ffmpeg accepts piped data as input (that I'm aware of) is in the 'yuv4mpegpipe' format.

I tried piping to ffmpeg using 'm4v' as the specified format, but it seems to want to read the entire stream before it begins processing.

Anyone know how I can do this ? Using commandline tools ? Open source libraries in ANY programming language ? Simpler solutions are preferred, but any working solution would be great.

  • PHP/ffmpeg (Windows 7) : - Permission Denied. Tried everything, but still doesn't work

    27 octobre 2014, par user365465

I have a command-line PHP script that, when given the folder name as an argument when executing the script, will find all images in said folder and resize them using FFmpeg. Problem is, I always get a Permission Denied error in FFmpeg when it attempts to get at the files within the folder. This is while being on Windows 7.

The big problem is that I’ve tried every solution that keeps popping up on the interwebs when I search for how to fix it. I’ve changed the settings in Avast !, did the attrib command (both as normal and "Run as Administrator") to unmark as read-only, took ownership of the folder both via command line and using that GUI takeown context menu thing everyone keeps throwing around (obviously before my efforts to mark everything as not-read-only), messed with permissions, everything. I keep searching and searching for a solution, but all of the sites keep throwing out the same things over and over again - things that I’ve already tried multiple times. I’m at the end of my rope here. All I want to do is resize images quickly and automatically so I can put them up on my website, yet this has been a massive headache...

    Please help me ! :(

    Update (Additional Points) :

    • The error is through FFmpeg, not PHP. FFmpeg spits out the permission denied error, the script just continues doing what it does normally (or, at least, it would if it weren’t for my die statement that kicks in in the event of FFmpeg failing).

    • FFmpeg will execute just fine if it’s run normally through the command line instead of through the script. However, this does not help the problem of me having to resize hundreds of photos by hand !

    • I’m just running this script in the normal terminal using the CLI engine. Weird use for PHP, I know, but since I already knew how to work with FFmpeg in PHP (but in Linux !) so I figured I might as well use the code as a normal, stand-alone program...

    • FFmpeg spits out the same error regardless of which PHP function is used to execute it. It happens for shell_exec, exec, passthru, and system.

  • FFMPEG - How to Extract Frames As Images While Removing Sequentially Duplicate Frames

19 mars 2017, par Michael Nelson

Is there any way (via script or preferably some parameter in calling ffmpeg that I missed) to extract frames from an avi file and ignore sequentially duplicate frames, thus being able to go through the pictures looking only at the deltas/changes ?

I frequently have to record meetings at work and a lot of the time, the client screen that I am looking at is not changing while we are talking over the phone. After the meeting is over, I need to use these images as part of our documentation and specifications gathering.

I know that I could just output every frame and run them through any given duplicate file remover utility, but this would remove ALL duplicate frames. So, if the frames extracted went like this :

    A, A, A, B, B, B, B, C, C, A, A, C, C, C, B, B, B ...

Running them through a typical duplicate file remover, I would get : A, B, C

    What I would want is : A, B, C, A, C, B

The command that I am currently using to extract the images is :

    ffmpeg.exe -i file.avi -ss 0 -sameq -f image2 -r 1 images%5d.png

I was getting every frame beforehand (removing the -r 1 from above), but that was generating way too many frames to deal with since these online meetings can go for hours, so for now, I get one frame per second from the file.

A Windows based solution would be preferable, however, I’m sure other people would be interested in solutions on other platforms if available.

Any solution or point in the right direction is much appreciated.
