  • FFMPEG and MSA1 Codec Issues when Converting WMV to MP4 Video

    30 décembre 2023, par user136819

I have a WMV video file (around 60 MB size, 01:23:00 length) and I'm running a Windows Server 2016 64-bit machine for testing.

As far as I know, this video file was recorded using Microsoft Live Meeting 2007 back in April 2010 and there is also an associated audio file (which I'm able to play).

I tried to play the video file on my machine using VLC player (latest update), however, I always see this weird MSA1 codec error :

    enter image description here

So I tried to resolve this problem by downloading and installing the Combined-Community-Codec-Pack-64bit-2015-10-18, and using its MPC-HC 64-bit player to play the video...
I still couldn't get it to play ! Here are the logs shown by the MPC player :

Since that didn't work, I tried installing the Microsoft MPEG-4 V1/2/3 VKI Codec for ASF files and still couldn't get the players to play the video and saw the same errors as above !

As a final attempt, I tried to convert this video to MP4 format using FFMPEG (version from 2020). Even this failed. Here are the logs :

I wish to know, is there any other way I can convert this video to a more modern format so that I can play it on a modern machine and modern video player ?

What other codecs am I missing here ? (if so, where can I get them ?)

FYI, as mentioned earlier at the top, I'm only able to play the associated audio file...

I'm fairly new to all this stuff, so any help is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance ! :)

  • ffmpeg says : "option framerate not found"

    16 juillet 2013, par Jason

    Good afternoon.

I've been trying to use ffmpeg to split a .mpeg into a sequence of .jpeg images. Please note that this is the inverse problem of the one specified here, but the problem I'm facing is not the same as the problem the author of that thread is facing.

Specifically, I have tried all the following mpeg codecs available in my ffmpeg installation :

    DEV D  ffv1            FFmpeg video codec #1
    DEVSD  ffvhuff         Huffyuv FFmpeg variant
    DEVSDT mpeg1video      MPEG-1 video
    D V DT mpeg1video_vdpau MPEG-1 video (VDPAU acceleration)
    D V D  mpeg2_crystalhd MPEG-2 Video (CrystalHD acceleration)
    DEVSDT mpeg2video      MPEG-2 video
    DEVSDT mpeg4           MPEG-4 part 2
    D V D  mpeg4_crystalhd MPEG-4 Part 2 (CrystalHD acceleration)
    D V DT mpeg4_vdpau     MPEG-4 part 2 (VDPAU)
    D VSDT mpegvideo       MPEG-1 video
    D V DT mpegvideo_vdpau MPEG-1/2 video (VDPAU acceleration)
    D VSDT mpegvideo_xvmc  MPEG-1/2 video XvMC (X-Video Motion Compensation)
    DEVSD  msmpeg4         MPEG-4 part 2 Microsoft variant version 3
    D V D  msmpeg4_crystalhd MPEG-4 Part 2 Microsoft variant version 3 (CrystalHD acceleration)
    D VSD  msmpeg4v1       MPEG-4 part 2 Microsoft variant version 1
    DEVSD  msmpeg4v2       MPEG-4 part 2 Microsoft variant version 2

I've tried supplying ffmpeg with all different codecs to try to split an input .mpeg video file with 2548 frames into 2548 .jpegs, by using the -vcodec option :

    ffmpeg -r 2548 -i frames.mpeg frames_%06d.jpg -vcodec $codec

where $codec is any codec among the ones listed above, e.g. ffv1, mpeg4, etc. However, all my efforts result in the following error :

[NULL @ 0x1948f20] Value 4707126720094797824.000000 for parameter 'probesize' out of range

    Option framerate not found.

Which is weird, because I've actually specified the frame rate parameter through the -r switch. I googled a bit and it appears that this error was mentioned approximately a year and a half ago on the ffmpeg bug tracker but that information makes little sense to me because it's relevant to the devs. Curiously, if I interchange the position of the parameters and put -r after -i or even after -vcodec, the error message changes to :

  • Missing packets when transcoding using ffmpeg

23 février 2021, par Adam Szmyd

I have very weird issue with trans-coding opus to any other format using ffmpeg. I example it on transcoding to flac as this is what I'm currently using.

So I have this one example opus file that after processing via ffmpeg kinda gets shorten like if the ffmpeg would drop some packets/data out of it.

I wouldn't mind if ffmpeg was cleaning up some redundant stuff but in practice this thing is making my output file of multiple streams out of sync so at some point audio tracks gets overlapping each other.

So I have this input input.opus file that's length is 00:00:05.78 and when i pass it through ffmpeg like this :

    $ ffmpeg -i input.opus -c flac output.flac

interestingly ffmpeg above shows that output should get 00:00:05.79 duration but when checking it with ffprobe, its shorter by 50ms :

    $ ffprobe -hide_banner output.flac
Input #0, flac, from 'output.flac':
  Metadata:
    encoder         : Lavf58.45.100
  Duration: 00:00:05.73, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 561 kb/s
Stream #0:0: Audio: flac, 48000 Hz, mono, s32 (24 bit)

It may seem silly small difference but I intentionally cut the file to be 5s long to keep troubleshooting easier. Source file is 30mins and I loose 1min out of it during that process so it is real.

    ffmpeg version 4.3.1

How can i troubleshoot this ? When i try with -loglevel trace I noticed these few logs that looks "suspicious" :

[opus @ 0x555a5abe6c40] skip 0 / discard 192 samples due to side data
[opus @ 0x555a5abe6c40] discard 192/960 samples

But haven't found a way to stop it from discarding these samples (not even sure it is causing that..)

I would appreciate any help or point troubleshooting direction.
