ffmpeg : Dynamically set output duration based on sliding text width
18 janvier 2016, par John WhitemanI need to create a smooth ’news ticker’ on a low powered android device. Unfortunately this is impossible at runtime using HTML or native code as there is always some stutter or glitch.
I’ve created a solution that gives me a smooth result by encoding an mp4 for each message and displaying one video after the other. This is the code I’m using :
ffmpeg -f lavfi -i color=c=black:s=1280x100 -vf "drawtext=BebasNeue.otf:fontsize=60:fontcolor=white:y=h-line_h-30:x=-(4*n)+1280:text='Hello world'" -t 10 output.mp4
Problem :
I need to set the video’s duration dynamically so that the video stops when the text has completed it’s journey from right to left. The messages will be of varying lengths and I need each message to scroll at a constant speed (ie. an mp4 with a longer message would have a longer duration). Is this possible via an expression ? If not is there some clever way I can calculate this outside of ffmpeg and pass it to the ’-t’ (duration) parameter ?
** Edit **
To calculate outside of ffmpeg I can do a calculation like video_width + text_width / video_fps (ie. 1280 + 262 / 25) to give me the duration. So now I’m just looking to see if this is possible within the ffmpeg command line itself. tMany thanks

ffmpeg file conversion unreadable [on hold]
16 août 2015, par rashadbI used ffmpeg to shorten a Videohive file from 14 seconds to 5 seconds with the following entry on the command line :
ffmpeg -i 15_Shopping_VKV.mov -t 5 shoes.mp4
The file doesn’t work when I try to play it with Quicktime. Along with other Google searches, I looked at the following links in Stackoverflow for suggestions :
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/25831944/unreadable-files
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/4818681/ffmpeg-conversion-error
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/22307229/ffmpeg-mp4-file-is-not-validAt this point I’m out of ideas to figure out what’s wrong, let alone how to fix the problem.
Here are some additional details :
I managed to edit a few other Videohive files but each file comes in slightly different format and although I’ve converted a number of other files with a similar entry or one that adjusts the codec to something web ready, I’ve been unable to successfully convert this file. Like all of the other original videohive files it is readily read by QuickTime. Only after the conversion does this file not work. All other files I’ve converted worked with the following conversions for example :
ffmpeg -i mainfile.mp4 -t 5:00 rave.mp4
OR
ffmpeg -i 00299.mov -c:v libx264 dating.mp4
Here are a few additional details that may help :
1) a link to the broken file

2) The printout of ffmpeg process

Installing full multimedia stack on server (ffmpeg,mp4box,sox,mplayer)
29 avril 2015, par hdezelaI’ve had a trusty text file with all(?) the steps I need to set up a full multimedia stack on a RHEL compatible server (CentOS, AWS Linux, etc.) for a few years now. However, sometimes some things are missing and I need to revise it. I know it is not complete so I’m asking for suggestions/modifications in order to get a good - and public - list of how to install all this stuff easily.
Ideally, I want to be able to run through the file and end up with a system that’ll take any media file and be able to convert/encode/decode/whatever with it.
This is what I have :
yum install mesa-libGL-devel mesa-libGLU-devel libXi-devel libXmu-devel freeglut-devel freeglut ncurses-devel
cd /usr/local/src
mkdir /usr/local/src/tmp
