• Compile FFMPEG + x264 - undefined references

  I have been trying to find a solution online for a couple of days with no luck. I am using Ubuntu and trying to compile the latest FFMPEG stable version (1.0.1) with x264 support. I made sure I uninstalled any existing x264 then I downloaded the latest x264 source and compiled it with the following config :

  All goes well, and I checked the installed version :

  x264 -V

  I then try to compile FFMPEG with the following options :

  The configure and make clean/make install work well, but when I try to create the .so file the following command fails :

  The x264 version it is looking for (129) is the one installed and compiled succesfully with —eanable-shared. Obviously all compiles fine when I do not include libx64.

  Question : How can I specify the include path for the last command ? I tried adding the path to $PATH and also adding this as an argument with no luck : -I/home/tishu/Workspaces/ffmpeg/ffmpeg/jni/x264

• New builds for PHP 5.4 and PHP 5.3

  It’s been a while since I last updated this blog (September 2009 to be exact). Time flies ! Anyway, here comes the actual content : updated imagick binaries for PHP 5.3 and PHP 5.4. The download package also includes ImageMagick 6.8.0 binaries compiled with VC9 (Visual Studio 2008). I noticed that the official ImageMagick builds are now Visual Studio 2010 and that wouldn’t work well with PHP compiled with 2008.

  I am not sure if I am violating any license in distributing ImageMagick binaries but if I do, please let me know and I will remove them. The binaries are just stock ImageMagick 6.8.0, which you can download from http://imagemagick.org/.

  In order to get things running you should add the ImageMagick DLL directory into PATH, add the imagick extension to php.ini and things should be running. At least hopefully.

• FFmpeg libx264 Llicense

  We have Java Spring application. The application interacts with FFmpeg through Java Runtime.exec() call in order to encode video into mp4 format. Are we ok with the commercial aspect of our application, having in mind that libx264 is released under GPL license, ffmpeg under LGPL license and we are using ffmpeg as external command line utility already installed and hosted on the client’s computer ?
