  • Convert an RTSP/RTMP-Livestream with G.711 audio into RTMP/RTSP with aac-audio

31 août 2018, par Alex Fuhr

im new at this forum and my english skills are not the best !

I have a website where i publish the videostreams of the cameras to show what happens inside during the nesting-time live ! An guy with high IT-skills has build me a little Server for Restream it (Datarhei-Restreamer) But this guy has still no time and worse response-times...

To my Problem : The Restreamer dont support the "G.711" Audio-Codec from the cameras and the Livestream are still without audio at the website. So, i need to convert the Livestreams (RTSP and RTMP- in H.264) so that the audio changes to "aac" or something other supported. But i have no plan how to do this. I tried it with FFMPEG but i dont find the correct commands to get the my result. There is something with an Streaming-server to send the new created stream to - i dont get it into my head to do this (i need just a stream that are viewable with VLC player and then as input for my restreamer-server, jsut the same like ca

I want to change the source-stream into the correct codec (audio from G.711 to AAC, the rest like source) and then, put this "new" stream into my Restreamer-Server and it will work fine ! (Tested with XSplitbroadcaster, but dont runs on Raspberry, only 1 instance runable but 2 livestreams needs to be encoded at same time) And this programm has annoying bugs (endless and not removeable error-messages, but running stream)

I have a new second raspberry that are planned as "live-encoder" for the restreamer-raspberry were the "new" streams are are going in (rtmp/rtsp-input on a graphical ui) I try it still with FFMPEG but still no result...

Sorry about this long text with all the language-issues but im really frustrated with it because i have purchased 2 new cameras with total 450 euros just to get the livestream with sound now :(

  • How to set custom handler_name metadata for subtitle stream using FFMPEG

    9 mars 2021, par AWainb

I'm currently using FFMPEG to embed subtitles into my MP4 files and I am stumped trying to figure out how to custom set the "handler_name" metadata tag on my subtitle stream so I can control the name that is displayed when selecting the subtitle within a player like MPC-HC (Media Player Classic) ?

My current command to embed the subtitle is :

    ffmpeg -i "video.mp4" -sub_charenc UTF-8 -i "video.srt" -c:v copy -c:a copy -c:s mov_text -metadata:s:s:0 language=eng -metadata:s:s:0 handler_name="English" -id3v2_version 3 -write_id3v1 1 "subbed_video.mp4"

    Output :

    C:\path\to>ffmpeg -y -i "video.mp4" -sub_charenc UTF-8 -i "video.srt" -c:v copy -c:a copy -c:s mov_text -metadata:s:s:0 language="eng" -metadata:s:s:0 handler_name="English" -id3v2_version 3 -write_id3v1 1 "subbed_video.mp4"

The command completes sucessfully, but when I run :

    ffmpeg -i "C:\path\to\subbed_video.mp4"

    it shows :

Even though the output from the command shows :

    Stream #0:2(eng): Subtitle: mov_text ([8][0][0][0] / 0x0008) (default)
Metadata:
  handler_name    : English
  encoder         : Lavc56.15.100 mov_text

No matter what options I have tried or what order I place the -metadata tags in, this tag simply will not set with FFMPEG ? I find it really ugly to see SubtitleHandler [eng] (tx3g) (English) within my player's menu instead of simply saying English.

Now, I can work around this issue by using MP4BOX to embed the subtitles into my mp4's using :

    MP4BOX -lang eng -add "video.srt:name=English" "video.mp4" -out "subbed_video.mp4"

Adding "name=English" allows me to set the subtitle stream's "handler_name" to "English" ; which displays perfectly in FFMPEG and MPC-HC, but the problem is that I do not want my app to be dependent on an additional external tool like MP4BOX if it can be avoided ?

I would greatly appreciate any advice regarding how to properly set the "handler_name" tag on my subtitle stream using FFMPEG, or maybe a confirmation as to whether FFMPEG can even handle this tag seeing as it is not technically listed in FFMPEG's valid metadata tag list ?

P.S. As an alternative to FFMPEG, I would be willing to use AtomicParsley to set the "handler_name" as I will already be using it to set advanced metadata on the "subbed_video.mp4" after I embed the subtitles. It does seem like it would be possible to do with AtomicParsley, but I have not been able to understand half the help information with regards to setting custom ATOM's.

    TIA !!

  • ffmpeg encoding .mp4 fails in safari when hosted from s3. handbrake encoded video works first time

11 juin 2018, par Simon Rogers

The mp4 videos I’ve encoded with ffmpeg work perfectly in Safari if stored locally, but break if hosted from s3. I have tried countless encoding settings to no avail.

However having just run a mov quickly through Handbrake and ticking ’optimise for web’ and encoding baseline @ 4.0, this has worked perfectly first time.

I don’t understand what could be going wrong with my ffmpeg encoding.

Things I have noticed about files from two separate encoders which work :

They both have yuv420p(tv, bt709) whereas ffmpeg is just saying yuv420p – this is the only thing I can identify from ffprobe that is consistently different.

I have done a fresh install of ffmpeg to no avail :

    ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"

    brew install ffmpeg --with-fdk-aac --with-ffplay --with-freetype --with-libass  --with-libvorbis --with-libvpx --with-opus --with-x265

This error appears in all the files I have encoded with ffmpeg :

Unsupported codec with id 0 for input stream 1

mp4box gives the following for the ffmpeg video, which doesn’t work :
