  • Getting "Your FFProbe version is too old..." error in Laravel during file upload with FFMpeg

    9 septembre 2020, par pjotr79

    currently I'm working on a video uploader (to S3) script in Laravel. I'd like to get some info about the uploaded video and later I'd like to create thumbnails as well (with the help of this plugin). As a first step I've installed the FFMpeg with brew :

    $ brew update
$ brew upgrade
$ brew cleanup
$ brew install ffmpeg --force
$ brew link ffmpeg

    Then in composer

    $ composer require php-ffmpeg/php-ffmpeg

    When I'm checking the installation I get the following

    which ffmpeg
/usr/local/bin/ffmpeg

which ffprobe
/usr/local/bin/ffprobe

    By checking the version :

    ffmpeg -version
ffmpeg version 4.3.1 Copyright (c) 2000-2020 the FFmpeg developers
    built with Apple clang version 11.0.3 (clang-1103.0.32.62)

    libswresample   3.  7.100 /  3.  7.100
    libpostproc    55.  7.100 / 55.  7.100

    The path also seems to be ok

    echo $PATH
/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin

    But when I'm trying to upload a video file (sample.mp4) I have the following error message :
Your FFProbe version is too old and does not support -help option, please upgrade.

    Here's the snippet from my code to test the upload :

        use FFMpeg;

    public function upload(Request $request)
    {
        if ($request->hasFile('files')) {
            $files = $request->file('files');
            foreach ($files as $key => $file) {
                $filename = pathinfo($file->getClientOriginalName(), PATHINFO_FILENAME);
                $extension = $file->getClientOriginalExtension();
                $filename = str_slug($filename).'.'.$extension;
                Storage::disk('s3Files')->put($filename, file_get_contents($file),'public');
                $fileurl = \Config::get('s3.files').$filename;

                $ffprobe = FFMpeg\FFProbe::create([
                    'ffmpeg.binaries'  => '/usr/local/bin/ffmpeg',
                    'ffprobe.binaries' => '/usr/local/bin/ffprobe'
                ]);

                $filesave = new File();
                $filesave->name = $filename;
                $filesave->type = $file->getClientMimeType();
                $filesave->size = $file->getSize();
                $filesave->duration = $ffprobe->format($fileurl)->get('duration');
                $filesave->save();

            }
        }
    }

    Now I spent hours to try to find a solution (also checking this thread here, but I couldn't solve the issue.

    My dev environment runs on Mac OS X 10.15.5, with Nginx and PHP 7.4.

    Do you have any idea how could I fix this problem ?

  • Extract frame timecodes from DV AVI

    21 juillet 2020, par Davor Josipovic

    I have some ancient DV AVI files (Type 1) from my camcorder.

    I would like to export the timecode of each frame to a seperate file. Here I read that ffprobe supports timecode extraction, but it is confusing since it mentions -show_format. As far as I know, DV AVI format encodes timecodes per frame.

    Anyway here is what I get for ffprobe -show_format testcc.avi :

    I don't see any timecode. In Movie Maker (yes I know... it's on an old VM) I do see all the correct timecodes per frame. So what am I doing wrong ?

  • ffmpeg segmentation filter don't works with strftime filename template

    24 juillet 2020, par Ksnadr Renderon

    I try to run ffmpeg with segment filter and timestamp filename template :

     ffmpeg -f v4l2 -framerate 30 -video_size 960x720 -i /dev/video0  -f segment  -segment_time 5  -reset_timestamps 1 -segment_format mp4 -strftime 1 out%Y-%m-%d_%H-%M-%S.mp4

    and i got error :

    Invalid segment filename template 'out%Y-%m-%d_%H-%M-%S.mp4'

    I have read a lot of posts and questions in the internet with the same arguments (after input, which is specific) and people says that this works. What wrong with my command ?
