How to make ffmpeg re-encode an vp9 webm with alpha into a vp9 webm with alpha
28 juillet 2021, par LemmeTestThatI am trying to find optimal parameters for encoding a transparent video using ffmpeg in my scenario, and as a test, I have been re-encoding a pre-made transparent .webm (vp9 with alpha channel, made using python vidgear) like this :

$ /usr/bin/ffmpeg -i pre-made.webm pre-made-remade.webm
ffmpeg version 4.3.2-0york0~18.04 Copyright (c) 2000-2021 the FFmpeg developers

According to the ffmpeg logs, the libvpx-vp9 is correctly being chosen, and alpha_mode is 1, which bodes well.
However, when actually viewing the video, the video is no longer trasparent.

How could I force ffmpeg to keep the alpha channel when re-encoding the video ? (This also applies when trying to merge audio into the .webm)

Bonus question : what arguments do you recommend for efficient vp9 encoding ? I have tried using
-threads 16 -speed 4 -tile-columns 6 -frame-parallel 1 -row-mt 1
but it seems to fail at fully utilizing all my CPU cores when encoding with the alpha channel (when piping frames from my python script).

Hardware acceleration FFMPEG not speeding up rendering at the moment
13 août 2021, par AlphaDjangoI currently have ffmpeg running on a computer (ubuntu server 20.04) with a nvidia MSI GTX 1660 6GB GAMING X TWIN FORZ 7 GRAPHICS CARD and a Ryzen 5 3600 cpu. I have installed the nvidia drivers for linux for it.

Currently when enabling and disabling hardware acceleration the rendering takes the same amount of time which is around 1 minute to render per 1 minute of footage.

When using a similar setup in davinci resolve it takes 1/4 of the time to apply similar background effects and concating the clips which makes me question if I am using hardware acceleration of if my ffmpeg command is not optimised for it ?

This is the code which takes in around 50 mp4 clips and joins them together, scales them in size and applies a background blur on the sides of clips

ffmpeg -hwaccel cuda -f concat -safe 0 -i /home/anon/project/MEDIAFILES/work_ffmpeg_space/concat_file_user_root_projectId_1.txt -s 1920x1080 -filter_complex '[0:v]scale=ih*16/9:-1:flags=bicubic,boxblur=luma_radius=min(h\,w)/20:luma_power=2:chroma_radius=min(cw\,ch)/20:chroma_power=1[bg];[bg][0:v]overlay=(W-w)/2:(H-h)/2,crop=h=iw*9/16' -af aselect=concatdec_select,aresample=async=1 /home/anon/project/MEDIAFILES/created_videos/finalvideo_user_root_projectId_1.mp4

Any tips or ways to optimise the code to use hardware acceleration will be greatly appreciated !

This is my ffmpeg configuration

ffmpeg : Extracted wav from mp4 video does not have equal duration as the original video
26 juillet 2021, par John SmithI have a mp4 video that is 0.92 seconds, and I am trying to extract the audio of the video to a wav format. I have tried several commands (I have provided a list of some of the commands that I have tried), however, the resulting wav does not have the same duration as the original video (the resulting wav often has a duration of 0.96 seconds instead of 0.92 seconds). Ensuring that the video and audio are synchronous is crucial for what I am doing (the videos are typically videos of a person speaking, and it is important that the speech (audio) is in-sync with the mouth movements of the speaker).

I find it odd that, by extracting audio from a video, the duration changes, even despite what is happening under the hood for the conversion (in terms of codecs used, etc).

Some of the commands that I've tried include :

ffmpeg -i <input /> -c copy -map 0:a -sample_rate 16000 <output>

ffmpeg -i <input /> -async 1 -f wav <output>

ffmpeg -i <input /> -vn -acodec copy <output>

ffmpeg -i <input /> -ac 2 -f wav <output>
</output></output></output></output>

Any insight would be highly appreciated.
Thanks !
