• Encoding of two full hd streams in Linux + GPU with Intel HD4000 / VA API / FFMPEG / OpenGL

  i want to encode/stream two full hd streams in realtime from my laptop to a remote location using linux/xorg on the host.

  VA API

  for this i’ve been playing with the VA API but the performance is pretty bad with 5.59 fps (see paste below).

  FFMPEG

  using ffmpeg with CPU encoding i get about 200 fps but then all cores of my Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3520M CPU @ 2.90GHz are busy and the fan turns on.

  future plans

  i want GPU support in encoding and later integrate this into a program which streams a virtual xorg ’screen’, see https://lastlog.de/wiki/index.php/Raspberry_PI_virtual_screen for more details on my plans.

  maybe h264 isn’t even what i want ? so if someone advices towards a different implementation, i’d welcome that.

  besides VA API there seems to be QuickSync but i didn’t experiment with that yet as it is not packaged on NixOS just yet.

  note : i need a library to have a smooth integration into the code.

• Creating personalized video from user submitted pictures and data

  Can someone guide me towards what technology to use to create personalized video from user submitted pictures and data.. The process has to be automated, as in server must be able to create a downloadable video from photos and text submitted by user..

  So the process will probably be like one video will be created by a hired artist, with placeholders where the user submitted pictures and text will fit in. Now with user submitted data video can be created and downloaded from the website..

  An example can be the videos created by facebook now-a-days on your birthday or year end. They consist some of your photos, some text and have a common video theme.. You can view one here http://newsroom.fb.com/news/2016/12/facebook-2016-year-in-review/

  One way I’ve found is to write the video code in html5 and then record it with phantomjs and ffmpeg.. http://mindthecode.com/recording-a-website-with-phantomjs-and-ffmpeg/

  But it seems a bit unnatural way of doing it.. And also I think not a lot of good artists are out there who can create the video theme in html5..

• FFMPEG : Adding font to Video gives error

  I am trying to execute ffmpeg on android. I have successfully executed 2-3 commands also. But i am stuck at one point where i am adding text to the video.

  Here is the command i am executing.

  NOT WORKING : because the text argument has a space between two words.

  "-i "+path+"out.mp4 -vf drawtext=fontfile="+path+"f1.ttf:text='Stack OverFlow' -y -c:v libx264 -c:a copy -movflags +faststart "+path+"output.mp4"

  WORKING : just removed space.

  Here path contains my external Sd card’s path. out.mp4 and f1.ttf exists in my folder.

  My Question is why it is not working with space.
