  • Using ffmpeg to build a streaming server to stream static media files (broadcast behaviour)

    15 février 2018, par MiDaa

I’ve read some online articles and SO questions, most of them are about streaming MY video to SERVER like youtube or switch.

This is about a project of interest, here are what it should do.

    • Work on a Linux server
    • Serve media(preferably multiple format like mp4 mkv) files to client through rtp protocol maybe ?
    • Server could set a specific time to start the streaming or end it
    • Server could pause and resume the streaming(?)
    • Multiple clients connect and play the stream at same time(sounds like a basic feature)

After some research, I found that ffmpeg is a great open-source candidate for such a project but as a newbie in this area, I’m having a tough time understanding how this whole thing work.

As this(ffmpeg doc) states, it looks like just a one liner command. But I don’t find anything fit my feature listed above.

Can ffmpeg be used to achieve those ? If not appriciate any suggesstion on where I should be looking at.

    EDIT :

    • Target devices : iPad,iPhone, Android phones should be able to watch the stream using a web browser(assume a modern browser)
  • FFmpeg film grain

    21 août 2019, par Some1Else

I want to add a film grain effect using FFMPEG if possible.

Taking a nice clean computer rendered scene and filter for a gritty black and white 16mm film look. As an example something like Clerks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mlfn5n-E2WE

According to Simulating TV noise Ishould be able to use the following filter

    -filter_complex "geq=random(1)*255:128:128;aevalsrc=-2+random(0)"

but when I add it to my ffmpeg command

    ffmpeg.exe -framerate 30 -i XYZ%05d.PNG -vf format=yuv420p -dst_range 1 -color_range 2 -c:v libxvid -vtag xvid -q:v 1 -y OUTPUT.AVI

    so the command is now

    ffmpeg.exe -framerate 30 -i XYZ%05d.PNG -vf format=yuv420p -dst_range 1 -color_range 2 -c:v libxvid -vtag xvid -q:v 1 -y -filter_complex "geq=random(1)*255:128:128;aevalsrc=-2+random(0)" OUTPUT.AVI

    I get the message

Filtergraph ’format=yuv420p’ was specified through the -vf/-af/-filter option for output stream 0:0, which is fed from a complex filtergraph.
    - vf/-af/-filter and -filter_complex cannot be used together for the same stream.

How can I change my ffmpeg command line so the grain filter works ? Additionally, can I add a slight blur too ? The old 16mm looks more like blurred then grainy.

    Thanks for any tips.

  • Store a videostream from webcam but as 1s long files that can later be merged together [duplicate]

    17 février 2018, par Jennifer R

This question is an exact duplicate of :

I’m trying to store a videostream from a webcam but need it to be 1s long files. I have never worked with storing videofiles so i’m not sure if and how i should use opencv and how those videofiles need to be contained that i can merge them together. I tried the old windows cmd code

    copy /b *.avi combined.avi

but since avi is sort of a container type i only got as far as the first file. I’m guessing since there’s some container data limiting the first file and i can’t watch it.

I need help in both questions. How can i store a video stream and how do i merge those videos ? Do i use ffmpeg for the latter and is it possible to edit the container data to the correct length ?
