  • FFmpeg : avconv and ffserver - connection reset by peer

    5 mars 2016, par einsA

I’m trying to stream a video via ffserver. My dev environment is a Raspberry Pi 2.

I’m getting an av_interleaved_write_frame(): Connection reset by peer with the following approach :

    pi@raspberrypi:/opt/livefeed $ avconv -f mjpeg -i movie.mjpg -r 20 -b 2000k -vcodec libx264 -preset ultrafast -f flv -metadata streamName="mjpeg_to_flv" -metadata title="converting mjpeg to flv via avconv" http://localhost:8090/feed1.ffm

On another machine I can open the flv-stream via VLC by opening the address http://ip.running.ffserver:8090/live.flv.

So why does it works step by step via the movie.flv file and not directly ?

Why ends this command with a av_interleaved_write_frame(): Connection reset by peer ?

  • how is maxrate used in FFMPEG when converting ?

    9 septembre 2013, par rhbc73

I met a problem when converting video stream into mpeg2 format with specified max bitrate in FFMPEG.

The input file has a high bitrate of about 40Mbps (resolution is 720P),

what I want to archive is to get a mpeg video of max bit rate of 9Mbps (keep same resolution)

    But when I used

    ffmpeg.exe -i Untitled720P.mp4 -c:v mpeg2video -c:a ac3 -r 25 -pix_fmt yuv420p -g 15 -
    b:v 6000000 -maxrate 9000000 -minrate 0 -bufsize 1835008 -packetsize 2048 -muxrate
    10080000 -b:a 448000 -ar 48000 manual.mpg

there came out lots warnings of "buffer underflow", and the generated file has an overall bitrate of 29.7Mbps although 9000k is specified to be max.

This generated mpeg video, when played in VLC player, stopped somewhere.

So I want to know, if there's any other argument I can use to force ffmpeg to generate an output which strictly stays below the specified max bitrate ?

    Great thanks

  • Should H.264 bit rate be multiples of 8 ?

31 août 2016, par Dan Sharp

I’m working on a video platform receiving H.264 video and building an HLS stream (transmuxing the H.264 to Mpeg2 TS segments via calls to ffmpeg).

I wanted to set the bit rate to be about 2000 kbps, but I’m wondering : does it matter if it’s 2000 or 2048 ?

In other words, do things calculate better if the bit rate is multiples of 8, like 512 or 2024 or 2048 ?

I don’t know enough about how the bit rate is used, either on the sending side (camera) or on the processing side (ffmpeg).

From tests... I can’t see any noticeable difference between 2000 and 2048, but maybe one is slightly better than another for the transmuxing and segmenting ?

    I welcome any thoughts/advice.
