  • DivX audio not decoded on DVD player

    8 août 2019, par Shaul

    Moved to https://video.stackexchange.com/questions/28225/divx-audio-not-decoded-on-dvd-player

    I am converting MP4 movie into AVI/DivX format. I plan to copy the AVI to a USB memory stick and plug it into my DVD player. My player is a Pioneer 3052 that supports USB input.

    I convert the file using ffmpeg without error messages. The output file is played correctly on my computer, including audio. I use "Movies & TVs" and "DIVX Player" for testing.

    When I try running it on my Pioneer the video and the subtitles are ok but there’s no audio. I know that there’s no issues with the hardware because videos converted with "FreeMake Video converter" do play audio.

    My command line is :

    .\ffmpeg.exe  "-i INFILE -c:v mpeg4 -vtag xvid -qscale:v 3 -c:a libmp3lame  -vf "scale=720:576:force_original_aspect_ratio=decrease,pad=720:576:(ow-iw)/2:(oh-ih)/2","subtitles=f=SRTFILE:charenc=ISO-8859-8:force_style=PrimaryColour=&H0000FFFF,Fontsize=16" OUTFILE

    I also experimented with -b:a 192k, -b:a 96k and -qscale:a 4 all leading to the same results.

    I wander what else to try.
    I add the report produced by ffprobe (for the output file) :

  • Error using PyDub : pcm_s8 codec not supported in WAVE format

    29 mai 2020, par thf9527

    Tried to read in a WAVE file.

    Pydub has been working perfectly for the past few months, until I have encountered a specific WAVE file format where I could not import into Python (but it has no issue while playing on windows media player and other players).

    from pydub import AudioSegment

file = r"NICE_Dev.wav"
print(utils.mediainfo(file))
try:
    data = AudioSegment.from_file(file)

except Exception as e:
    print(e)

  • How to read the timecode from a DPX file via Python

    20 janvier 2020, par Mike McReynolds

    As part of a larger script, I need to be able to read the timecode off of a DPX file. I have ffmpeg and ffprobe, but I’m a beginner when it comes to using those programs.

    For MOV files, I was able to cobble this together :

    def GetStartingTimecodeFromMOV(Filename):
       cmd = "ffprobe -v quiet -print_format json -show_streams -show_format"
       args = shlex.split(cmd)
       args.append(Filename)
       String = subprocess.check_output(args).decode('utf-8')
       for Line in String.split("\n"):
           if Line.count("timecode"):
               Timecode = Line.split("\"")[3]
               return Timecode

    ...but their must be some subtle difference in the metadata between a MOV file and a DPX. Any help would be appreciated.

    If I try....

    ffprobe -v quiet -show_streams -show_format
    "/Render/MyFile/MyFile.0001016.dpx"

    ...then I get a lot of useful info, including resolution and FPS, but not timecode (at least for a DPX file)
