• Why is ffmpeg-python throwing a codec error here ?

  I’m trying out ffmpeg-python for the first time and I’m hitting what looks like a complex error surprisingly early on.

  Here’s my complete code as it stands :

  In my head, this ought to be simple. The user browses to an existing MOV file (a standard h264 file which ’normal’ FFmpeg.exe can handle no problem on a Windows command line), then selects an output file for an MP4 to be saved, then FFmpeg is called and an MP4 file is converted from the MOV.

  However, regardless of what source file I choose, I am always hitting this error :

  The position number changes depending on the file but the error is always ’charmap’ codec can’t decode byte 0x90 in position [x] : character maps to < undefined >

  Please can somebody point me to where I may be going wrong on this one ? I feel the answer is staring me in the face but I’m not seeing it.

• Merge videos with different start times and show them on a grid

  I have multiple video files of a conference call. However, each participant joined the call at a different time, which resulted in the fact that each video file has a different start time offset values.

  Video   Start Time
  
  ------------------
  
  Video1  00:00
  
  Video2  00:10
  
  Video3  01:40

  My purpose is to play back this conference. However, I did not record the conference as 1 video, it is recorded with multiple video files, instead.
  How do I stitch these videos ?

  There is also a paid solution to merge video fragments to a single clip – this will make the client-side much simpler. But can I do it for free ?

  The expected outcome is to have one video showing three videos on a grid.
  When ffmpeg stitches the videos, it should consider their start time values properly so that the videos are played accordingly.
