  • Using Python to make a terminal-based YouTube audio streamer

11 août 2015, par Tyson Berry

I want to make a terminal-based program that streams YouTube audio for easy listening to music. I’m aware that I’d have to use a converter like ffmpeg to extract the mp3 audio and an audio player like Foobar2000, I’m just unsure how to make it all work together.

I have an idea for commands etc which is here. (Excuse my crude use of MS Paint)

As you can see yap (YouTube Audio Player, a working title) is the command used in front of a YouTube URL to tell the program what video to fetch. It then fetches the title of the video from the YouTube page’s source, which is listed in a text file on the desktop along with the URL. The song is then loaded and played through the audio player which is displayed in the terminal using the song time. When the song has ended, you can see the user has typed list. List opens up the list on the desktop, which displays all the songs previously entered in the program. The user can then select a number and play the corresponding song from the list.

I have found this, which is outdated yet relevant.

  • Encoding videos locally or through a third party ?

    7 septembre 2015, par JordanDevelop

We’re in the process on building a view uploading and sharing community right now and we’re currently developing with idea of using a third-party like Zencoder, but what makes Zencoder a better option ?

I’m sorry if i butcher up what is involved with supporting a local encoding system, so I’ll try to be vague. We plan on releasing with AWS, so why not setup an instance running ffmpeg ? I understand it’s a lot more then simply that, but if is it that difficult to find someone who can put together an instance for encoding ?

Am I right to assume most third party encoding services seem very unrealistic, price wise, for a web application who specifically focus on encoding large amounts of media ? I did notice Amazon offers an encoding features and would definitely feel more comfortable using them, but even that seems seems redundant.

I completely understand the cost behind encoding is very real, but I just can’t understand why third-party encoders are so widely accepted.

  • Capture and Record Desktop Screen with/as Webcam Video

18 avril 2017, par Bilal Ahmed Yaseen

Webcam lets others view either still pictures or motion video of a user or other object in front of it. I want to configure Webcam in a way that it start capturing desktop screen instead of what is in front of it.

I want to manipulate desktop screen captured through Webcam using FFMPEG library. Such as :

    ffmpeg -f dshow -i video="Integrated Webcam" -f mp4 cam_stream.mp4

I want to use this same application to capture my Desktop Screen that will be possible just in that case when Webcam will be able to capture my Desktop Screen instead. So above command will start recording what Webcam will be capturing that I want it to capture my desktop screen.

Note : I know other ways to capture, record or stream desktop screen but I want to achieve it through Webcam.

What I tried so far : I tried some Fake/Virtual Webcam software (manycam, sparkocam etc.) but I don’t think they fulfil what I exactly want.

P.S. I posted the same question in another community but didn’t get any response.

Please guide me if there is any way to achieve this ? Thanks
