  • Aspect ratio problems at transcoding with ffmpeg [closed]

    19 novembre 2023, par udippel

    I have a huge collection of videos from the last 20+ years, videos in all sorts of formats. I use gerbera as open source UPnP-AV media server. Our TV handles only very limited of these formats. Therefore I use the transcoding feature of gerbera (I don't want to convert the 2000+ files ; thereby avoiding loss of multiple audio tracks, (multiple) subtitles, and so forth).

    This is my current unified argument line for ffmpeg :
-c:v mpeg2video -maxrate 20000k -vf setdar=16/9 -r 24000/1001 -qscale:v 4 -top 1 -c:a mp2 -f mpeg -y
It works pretty okay, except of the aspect ratios. Well, I don't understand this fully, because ffprobe for File A states :
Stream #0:0: Video: mpeg4 (Simple Profile) (XVID / 0x44495658), yuv420p, 624x464 [SAR 1:1 DAR 39:29], 1500 kb/s, 25 fps, 25 tbr, 25 tbn, 25 tbc
This file displays very well.
File B comes as :
Stream #0:0(eng): Video: h264 (High), yuv420p(tv, bt709, progressive), 960x720, SAR 1:1 DAR 4:3, 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 180k tbc (default)
This file displays horribly squeezed vertically and doesn't fill the screen left and right neither, with the same settings of the TV. Also, playing this file (and others, naturally) the TV doesn't offer the 14:9 display option, which is available e.g. for the file further up.

    Both have same SAR, DAR, almost identical H:V ratios (1.345, 1.333) ; and almost identical DAR.

    My questions :

    1. Why, despite of almost identical pixel ratios, DAR and SAR are these files handled so differently in one and the same session on the same TV (SONY), please ?
    2.

    3. With which method could I instruct ffmpeg to display the second file properly, too, please ?
(I have already tried 'scale' ; but to no avail. Which could have been foreseen, since the ratios are already very close.)
My guess is, that the (tv, bt709, progressive) mess things up.
(I have already tried to add the yuv420p in the argument line, also to no avail.)
    4.

    Appreciate any help,

    Uwe

    I have already tried to add a 'scale' option ; but to no avail. Which could have been foreseen, since the ratios are already very close.
I have already tried to add the yuv420p in the argument line, also to no avail.
I have already tried force_original_aspect_ratio, but also here, nothing improving.
Also, I played with -aspect, but the aspects are okay, and would need individual corrections, which I can't and don't to do for 2000+ files. A simple 16:9 doesn't cut it.

  • How do I deploy Whisper.cpp stream.wasm on an EC2 instance ? [closed]

    3 août, par tosUser

    How do I deploy the whisper.cpp stream.wasm demo on a EC2 instance ?

    The demo is available from the following git :
https://github.com/ggml-org/whisper.cpp/tree/master/examples/stream.wasm

    I am fairly far along, but the program hangs on Preparing ...
I do not know what is causing the issue.

    Here are the steps I have taken. (I am trying to make it brief, and provide more detail as necessary.)
I cloned the repository and built it locally.
It runs properly.

    I created an EC2 instance running Amazon Linux 2023, and uploaded the Whisper.cpp files to it.
I ssh into the server and installed nginx, it displays the default page to the server's public ip address.
I then configured nginx as a reverse proxy server :

        server {
        listen 80;
        server_name redactedPublicIpAddress;
        location / {
            proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:8000;
        }
    }

    I enabled and restarted nginx.

    I then try to run whisper.cpp stream.wasm by running python3 examples/server.py
It indicates that it is serving home/ec2-user/whisper.cpp/build-em/bin to localhost:8000
This is analogous to the message when it is served locally.
Stream.wasm has a 301 response.
Helpers.js and coi-serviceworker.js have 200 responses.

    The index file displays normally at the public ip address/stream.wasm/

    However, all is not well. The js seems to hang on Preparing...
Other js functions on the page still function, I can download a model and the page indicates it was downloaded, etc. However, I cannot start recording. The start button is not active. It never properly initializes.

    This type of behavior is identical to trying to open the index file on my local computer without it being served.

    I think I am missing something simple, but do not know what it is.

    Here are some steps that I took afterwards that did not fix the issue :
I installed nodejs and npm so that I could install ffmpeg.wasm : npm install @ffmpeg/ffmpeg @ffmpeg/util

    The github page indicates that I need to put the files in the html path. So in trying to troubleshoot I put them in /user/shared/nginx/html which is where the nginx default index file is placed.

    I think it may be related to serving the python. The server.py file is not in a state to deploy it with uvicorn.

    Maybe there is some sort of cors issue.

    I simply do not know.

  • ffmpeg autorotate results in broken output when moving from cpu to gpu

    16 août 2023, par user2290269

    Given an input file with a Display Matrix :

    ffprobe -show_format -show_streams -print_format json -i rotated.mov

    Using CPU-transcoding is resulting in a correctly rotated output file and exitcode 0 :

    ffmpeg -autorotate 1 -y -i rotated.mov -f mp4 -vf scale=-2:360 -c:v libx264 -b:v 800K cpu.mp4

    Using GPU-transcoding is resulting in a incorretly rotated output file and exitcode 0 :

    ffmpeg -hwaccel cuda -hwaccel_output_format cuda -autorotate 1 -y -i rotated.mov -f mp4 -vf scale_cuda=-2:360 -c:v h264_nvenc -b:v 800K gpu.mp4

    See the Display Matrix rotation information.
The GPU-File plays upside down, the CPU-File plays correctly.

    Looks like (the default -autoroatate 1) is silently ignored for GPU-based transcoding. automatic insertion of filters fails silently. exitcode is 0 for gpu, too. but the output is actually broken, because it is upside down in playback.

    Same is true for input having other rotations than -180°.

    One (bad) way to solve, use complex filters :
When using complex filter with hwupload_cuda, the autorotate-filters get added correctly automatically.

    ffmpeg -y -i rotated.mov -f mp4 -vf hwupload_cuda=device=0,scale_cuda=-2:360 -c:v h264_nvenc -b:v 800K gpu-complexfilter.mp4

    When going into scale_cuda directly there is an error message and exitcode !=0.

    ffmpeg -y -loglevel debug -i rotated.mov -f mp4 -vf scale_cuda=-2:360 -c:v h264_nvenc -b:v 800K gpu-error.mp4

    Impossible to convert between the formats supported by the filter 'hflip' and the filter 'auto_scale_0'
[vf#0:0 @ 0000026723318540] Error reinitializing filters!
Failed to inject frame into filter network: Function not implemented
Error while filtering: Function not implemented

    Using complex filters is not a good solution, because it disables automatic filter graph filter-adding and -mapping, which is very useful for e.g. -f HLS.

    So is there a way to keep complex filters away and get correct output or exitcode !=0 indicating a broken output for any given input-file coming as a file-upload from the internet ?
