  • Old TV : ffmpeg-converted file not working

    29 décembre 2016, par senseiwa

    I have an old Full-HD TV (Philips) that supports USB reading with some video formats. However, it just supports one audio stream (the first), so in case I have two with the first that is not english, I need to remove the first one. I am doing this via ffmpeg, but the TV cannot read the converted file, although they are identical (except for one audio track).

    The conversion command I am using is is

    ffmpeg -i filename.IN -map 0:0 -map 0:2 -acodec copy -vcodec copy  filename.OUT

    to just copy the video/audio stream, but keeping only the second audio track. The original file is this one (output of ffprobe) and it works perfectly reproducing the video with the first audio track :

    Input #0, avi, from 'ORIG.avi':
     Metadata:
       encoder         : X
     Duration: 01:40:57.18, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 2695 kb/s
       Stream #0:0: Video: mpeg4 (Advanced Simple Profile) (XVID / 0x44495658), yuv420p, 656x368 [SAR 1:1 DAR 41:23], 1914 kb/s, 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 23.98 tbn, 23.98 tbc
       Stream #0:1: Audio: ac3 ([0] [0][0] / 0x2000), 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 384 kb/s
       Stream #0:2: Audio: ac3 ([0] [0][0] / 0x2000), 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 384 kb/s

    and the converted not working one is

    Input #0, avi, from 'CONV.avi':
     Metadata:
       encoder         : Lavf57.56.100
     Duration: 01:40:57.18, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 2309 kb/s
       Stream #0:0: Video: mpeg4 (Advanced Simple Profile) (XVID / 0x44495658), yuv420p, 656x368 [SAR 1:1 DAR 41:23], 1914 kb/s, 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 23.98 tbn, 23.98 tbc
       Stream #0:1: Audio: ac3 ([0] [0][0] / 0x2000), 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 384 kb/s

    On a PC, however, they both work.

    The question is, how can I convert, keeping eventually just one audio track, in a format that my TV supports without losing quality ?

    I do not have the list of supported codecs, but I have a list of videos that the TV is able to reproduce.

  • Converting DVD image with subtitles to MKV using avconv

    16 janvier 2016, par Carlos Eugenio Thompson Pinzón

    This is the procedure I know to convert a DVD image to another videoformat (v.g. MP4) :

    1. concatenate the VTS_01_n.VOB files inside VIDEO_TS folder (for n >= 0) into a single VOB file.
    2. use avconv or ffmpeg in order to convert that VOB into another format.

    So far so good, however now I want to convert the DVD image with the subtitles. As far as I know the MKV format supports subtitles, so it seems an obvious choice. Alternatively I might use any other format with hard subtitles (subtitles as part of the video image).

    However, the subtitle encoding in the DVD image is dvdsub and I get the following error

    Only SUBTITLE_ASS type supported.
    Subtitle encoding failed

    However, when running avconv -codecs I get :

    ...
    DES    dvdsub          DVD subtitles
    ...

    And the -c:s copy switch, while it prevents the command to fail, it does not seem to produce a subtitle that the player can understand.

    So, how can I create ass subtitles from dvdsub using avconv ?

    My VOB file has eight subtitle channels and two audio channels. The Ubuntu video app does not show any subtitles, and only the first audio channel seems to be working, do the DVD image might be broken.

    Another file, for a double-layer DVD, displays the Subtitle encoding error, however when using the -c:s copy switch it further displays :

    Application provided invalid, non monotonically increasing dts to muxer in stream 2: 49 >= 49
    av_interleaved_write_frame(): Invalid argument

    Thank you in advance for any ideas on how to solve these problems.

    (I am using Ubuntu where ffmpeg is an alias for avconv. I know it is possible to install the real ffmpeg but so far I have not done so.)

  • Evolution #4779 (Nouveau) : Déclarer fonctions variadiques au lieu d’utiliser func_get_args

    9 mai 2021, par jluc -

    PHP recommande de ne pas utiliser func_get_args mais de déclarer explicitement comme variadiques les fonctions, en passant les arguments avec "...", au lieu de les récupérer avec func_get_args. cf https://www.php.net/manual/fr/functions.arguments.php#functions.variable-arg-list en français pas toujours bien traduit, ou https://www.php.net/manual/en/functions.arguments.php#functions.variable-arg-list en anglais.

    Exemple : remplacer l’actuel :

    function concat()  $args = func_get_args() ; return join(’’, $args) ;

    par

    function concat (...$args) return join(’’, $args) ;

    Rq : Il faut la syntaxe "..." pour que isVariadic() renvoie true. Ça augmente les capacités d’introspection. Utile par exemple pour #4717 + https://git.spip.net/spip/spip/pulls/160
