  • PHP FFmpeg video aspect ratio problem [SOLVED]

    29 août 2011, par Herr Kaleun

    i compiled the new version of FFMPEG and the padding commands have been deprecated.
    As i try to get familiar with the new -vf pad= commands, i want to ask, how can i
    convert a video without changing it's aspect ratio.

    I've checked numerous solutions from stackoverflow, nothing seemed to work.
    Can someone, please post a working PHP example or cmd line. I would be VERY happy.

    Please note that the videos in question, could be 4:3 and also be 16:9

    Let's say, i convert a 16:9 video to 640x480 format. It will need some bars at
    the top and at the bottom. That is what i want to do.

    Thanks

    EDIT :
    I solved the problem on my own. The FFmpeg documentation is a little bit weird so
    you have to experiment yourself a little bit.
    The padding formula is like :

       $pad_horizontal = $target_width     + $pad_left + $pad_right;
       $pad_vertical   = $target_height;
       // blah
       $command .= " -vf pad=$pad_horizontal:$pad_vertical:". $pad_left .":". $pad_top  .":black";

    Pay special attention at the $pad_vertical part since the paddings there are better
    not added so that the padding calculation of ffmpeg is not broken.

    Here is the full source code to the demo

       get_dimensions()

       Takes in a set of video dimensions - original and target - and returns the optimal conversion
       dimensions.  It will always return the smaller of the original or target dimensions.
       For example: original dimensions of 320x240 and target dimensions of 640x480.
       The result will be 320x240 because converting to 640x480 would be a waste of disk
       space, processing, and bandwidth (assuming these videos are to be downloaded).

       @param $original_width:     The actual width of the original video file which is to be converted.
       @param $original_height:    The actual height of the original video file which is to be converted.
       @param $target_width:       The width of the video file which we will be converting to.
       @param $target_height:      The height of the video file which we will be converting to.
       @param $force_aspect:       Boolean value of whether or not to force conversion to the target's
                             aspect ratio using padding (so the video isn't stretched).  If false, the
                             conversion dimensions will retain the aspect ratio of the original.
                             Optional parameter.  Defaults to true.

  • Rtsp streaming with 3gp (Video encoded with ffmpeg) breaking every 8 seconds

    8 août 2012, par user1581063

    I have set up Darwin streaming server(6.0) to stream rtsp on android / other mobile devices in AWS using Ec2.
    I have opened all UDP and necessary tcp ports required for playing RTSP

    I am using ffmpeg to encode videos. Below is the command used for encoding a H264 video to H263.

    ffmpeg -i test1.mp4 -f 3gp -s 176x144 -vcodec h263 -b:v 339k -r 14.895 -acodec libamr_nb -ac 1 -ar 8000 -ab 12.2k -y test.3gp

    The encoded videos stops every multiples of 8 seconds, bufffers and plays again in all Android phone(< 4.0).

    I tried all the options still the behavior is same. The same RTSP link plays well with Daroon player( downloaded from google play) on Android or VLC player in windows.

    I am not able to figure whether its a encoding issue or server side issue.

  • Capture camera + mic and encode to h264/aac on macOS

    16 décembre 2018, par Flock Dawson

    I’m having trouble capturing and encoding audio+video on-the-fly on macOS.

    I tried two options :

    1. ffmpeg

      ffmpeg -threads 0 -f avfoundation -s 1920x1080 -framerate 25 -I 0:0 -async 441 -c:v libx264 -preset medium -pix_fmt yuv420p -crf 22 -c:a libfdk_aac -aq 95 -y
    2. gstreamer

      gst-launch-1.0 -ve avfvideosrc device-index=0 ! video/x-raw,width=1920,height=1080,framerate=25/1 ! vtenc_h264 ! queue ! mp4mux name=mux ! filesink location=out.mp4  osxaudiosrc device=0 ! audio/x-raw ! faac midside=false ! queue ! mux.

    The ffmpeg option works, but only for lower resolutions. With higher resolutions, the Mac mini (2018 gen) can’t do the heavy lifting. I think because I installed ffmpeg with brew, so it wasn’t compiled on my machine, meaning it doesn’t use the h264 hardware encoder in the Mac ?

    The gstreamer option works as well, but there’s a slight audio/video sync issue (audio is 100ms ahead of the video). I can’t seem to add delay to the GStreamer queue (it ignores it) :

    queue max-size-buffers=0 max-size-time=0 max-size-bytes=0 min-threshold-time=100000000

    Anyone who has any experience with this ? Thanks !
