• Image files as inputs with AWS Elastic Transcoder ?

  Here’s my situation. I’ve been working on building a service at work that takes dynamically generated images and outputs animations as mp4 or gif. The user has the options of setting dimensions, time for each frame, etc.

  I have this working currently with ffmpeg. It works ok, but is difficult (and potentially expensive) to scale due largely to the cpu/memory requirements that ffmpeg needs.

  I just spent some time experimenting with AWS’s Elastic Transcoder. It doesn’t seem to like static image files (jpg, png) as source material in jobs. The file types aren’t listed under the available Preset options either.

  I’m sure that I could adapt the existing architecture to save the static images as video files (sound isn’t needed) and upload those. That will still require ffmpeg to be in the pipeline though.

  Are there any other AWS services that might work with my needs and allow the use of Elastic Transcoder ?

• Downloading, transcoding, then streaming on the fly with VLC

  I need to download a file from a web service the immediatley extract the audio, then transcode it, then stream it out.

  When I use :

  vlc.exe URL :sout=#transcode{acodec=mp3,ab=128,channels=2,samplerate=44100}:http{dst=:8080/audio.mp3}

  it is really choppy when I listen to it on the other computer. What is strange also is that for some YouTube links, the above works well, but for others it dosen't work well. I am not sure why this is.

  However, when I download the audio first, then stream it out, like this
  vlc.exe "song.mp3" :sout=#transcode{acodec=mp3,ab=128,channels=2,samplerate=44100}:http{dst=:8080/audio.mp3}

  it works well. The issue is I can't always download the song before hand (long pod casts or internet radio...).

  Is there a command or VLC optimization that I can use to help remedy this situation ? Or another program that would be good ?

  I would like to convert an adobe connect video from .flv in the downloaded zip to .mp4. I have already done the steps explained in this question and answer, however I get .flv files organised like this inside the .zip :

  

  Moreover, I know that ffmpeg can merge video and sound files together as well as concatenating resulting clips directly from the command-line which could be quite useful : https://www.labnol.org/internet/useful-ffmpeg-commands/28490/

  I can’t ask the owner of the video to make it available as an .mp4 from within the adobe connect admin interface. Briefly, I would like to listen to those videos in x2 speed in VLC (just like what I do when listening to random math classes on YouTube - I put ON the x2 speed). The amount of time I would gain to watch adobe connect videos in x2 speed is MASSIVE.

  I think I am not the only one that would like to do this. There are a lot of questions on forums about downloading adobe connect videos, but the .flv format mixed with some .xml is generally a killer when the host does not make the videos properly available in .mp4.

  Dealing with the order of the .flv files is a puzzle. At least, I would not care to flush the chat away and leave some details like that behind, that would help to reconstruct the videos. Any scripts to automate the process would be useful.
