  • how to read a http video stream with libavcodec (ffmpeg)

    23 décembre 2011, par mwahab

I'm trying to read a real-time http video stream (I've set one up using VLC and my webcam) using libavcodec from ffmpeg. so far I've been able to read an mpeg file fine but when I pass a url instead of the file name it hangs (I assume it's waiting for the end of the file).

anyone have experience/ideas on how to do this ? I'm also open to alternatives if people have other suggestions.

the end goal is to do live video-streaming on the iphone. apple's http live streaming has too much lag for what I need but that's for another post :)

any help is greatly appreciated !

  • What can be the substitute for SDL to direct ffmpeg decoded videos to screen in IOS ?

    18 octobre 2012, par jAckOdE

I making a iOS video player using ffmpeg, the flow likes this :

    Video File---> [FFMPEG Decoder] —> decoded frames —> [a media director] —> /iphone screen (full and partial)/

A media director will handle the tasks of rendering decoded video frames to iOS ui (UIView, UIWindow etc), outputting audio samples to iOS speaker, and threads management.

SDL is one of those libs, but SDL is mainly made for game making purpose and seem to be not really mature for iOS.

What can be the substitute for SDL ?

  • Convert HEVC video to a more widely supported format using fluent-ffmpeg in Node.js

21 juin 2021, par Daniel Loiterton

My app allows users to upload videos from their phones. However, the latest iPhone default format (HEVC / H.265) does not seem to be supported by Chrome and other browsers, so some users cannot stream the videos.

I'm already using fluent-ffmpeg on my Node.js backend to read metadata and extract thumbnails from the uploaded videos. How would I go about converting HEVC videos to something else ? What format/options would be appropriate for streaming to browsers ? Ideally I'd like to keep files fairly small, and I'm willing to sacrifice some quality to that end.
