  • How to convert from .avi container to .mp4

9 novembre 2014, par Manuel Selva

I have an .avi file containing the following streams :

    Stream #0.0: Video: mpeg4 (Advanced Simple Profile), yuv420p, 608x256 [PAR 1:1 DAR 19:8], 23.98 tbn, 23.98 tbc

    Stream #0.1: Audio: mp3, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16p, 128 kb/s

I want to play this movie on an Iphone supposed to support mpeg4 video streams as stated in a previous question here. For now, I don’t care about the audio stream (mp3 doesn’t seem to be supported by the Iphone)

As a consequence I am looking for a way to just convert the "container" format of my file from .avi to .mp4 required by the Iphone. Is it doable, and if yes how should I do that ?

  • Encode iOS compatible h264 audio stream with FFMPEG

    11 octobre 2014, par beamformer

I am using FFMPEG with Python to encode a low bit rate version of videos that I import. I would like the output to be playable on several devices, including Roku and iOS. This link states that Apple supports H264 High profile, level 4.1 and MP3 audio.

    ffmpeg -preset veryslow -y -profile:v high -level 4.0 -movflags +faststart -codec:a libmp3lame -qscale:a 2 -s 1280x720 out.mp4

The resulting videos play fine in an HTML5 browser on a computer. However, on the iPhone the video appears but the audio stream does not play. Is there an issue with the mp3 settings ?

    From ffprobe :

I tried using AAC, but did not get good results with the native FFMPEG encoder

  • ffmpeg convert any user video file to run on mobiles h264 mp4

    24 octobre 2014, par tobros91

So, i have kind of accepted this task on work but im really not sure if its possible.

We are going to build a website where users can upload videos from their computers and mobile phone browsers. The video files can be a large range of aspect ratios, width, height, codex and file formats.

I will have access to ffmpeg from php exec command on a web server.

Is it possible to use this to convert the user files to one file format that works on computers, android and iphone.

The requirements is that we can set a max width, to witch the video will be scaled, dynamically to match height.

Does anyone know is this can be done, and be done in a reasonable amount of time. Will do project on 2 days. And if so some pointers in the right direction would be nice.
