• Bat file that extracts subtitle file then hard encodes the subtitle file into the original mkv file

  My tv can play mkv files off of a flash drive but it cannot detect the subtitles files. I am trying to make a bat file that essentially takes the .srt file out of the mkv file then hard encodes it into the mkv file using ffmpeg. I am getting close but the naming is not working properly. For instance when it creates the subtitle file it names it infile.mkv.srt. When the file is encoded it is named infile.mkvEncoded.mkv. I am trying to get rid of the extra .mkv

  I am not great with variables in bat files so I am not exactly sure what to do. I added the "Encoded" part to the name of the file so that it doesn’t overwrite the original infile. I plan on just using bulk rename utility to get rid of that part unless there is a better way.

• How to make TIME subtitles(.srt, .smi etc) with frame unit

  I want to create a Python script that make subtitle (a ticking timecode).

  I have an h.264 binary file that has timestamp in each frame. so I want to parse this timestamp and make the subtitle with it.

  Here’s what I’ve tried with ffmpeg below.

  ffmpeg -y -i video.avi -vf "drawtext=fontfile=C:\Windows\Fonts\consolab.ttf: fontsize=12:fontcolor=yellow: box=1:boxcolor=black@0.4: text='TIME\: %{pts\:gmtime\:1561939200}':x=(w-tw)/2:y=(h-th)/2" test.avi

  Output .avi is okay with the timestamp, but, I needed to re-encode the source video file which takes a lot of time.
  So, I want to use a different way, which is creating subtitles.

  Question is, is there any way to make subtitle with frame time ? or useful info to fill me in ?

• Restoring corrupted video after recovery

  I have recently recovered the content of an old drive of mine using photorec.

  To my surprise, photorec recovered a lot of files with non-video extensions (.sqlite, .apple, .pdf, .torrent...) that contain fragments of video. I can see these fragments only using mplayer/mencoder (quicktime and vlc cannot). Some of the files are even hundreds of megabyte large, but mplayer only shows me a few seconds of the video.

  Is there any script/data carving tool that I can use to see if I can recover more video fragments from these files ? I am not afraid of trying solutions that require some coding or manual inspection (e.g., search for headers via hex editors).

  Thank you for your help, any suggestion is highly appreciated.
