  • Multiple frames lost if I use av_read_frame in FFmpeg

    I have an HEVC sequence with 3500 frames and I am writing a decoder for reading it (read frame by frame and dump to yuv). In my main(), I have a for loop that calls a decoder() 3500 times (I am assuming at this stage that the main() knows how many frames there are).

    So, for every call to decoder(), I need a complete frame to be returned. This is what the decoder() looks like..

    The behavior is like this : 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 2 1 2 1 2 ...... it looks like it reads several frames before decoding one ? The first frame is an I-frame, so shouldn’t that be decoded right away ?

    With this code, I end up losing the several frames (indicated by the series of 1s). Can someone help me out here ? Is there something I am doing wrong in my code ?

    Update : the test clip is video-only. No audio.

  • FFMPEG Overlay 1080X1920 video over 1280X720 video at a particular vertical position

    I have a 1080X1920 (vertical) video with alpha channel with a blank spot 500px north of the bottom. This blank spot is 1080X607.

    I have a 1280X720 sized video I want to position in that spot, so the 1280 video will have to be sized down to 1080 wide and then positioned 500px from the bottom and UNDER the video on top.

    This is what I currently have, but it is failing beautifully.

  • FFmpeg media info incorrect when encoding aac audio track

    I recently dipped my feet into encoding with FFmpeg. It's been working fine for me apart form 1 issues I have noticed recently. When I try and re-encode an audio track to acc the media info tags are somewhat wrong. Bitrate, streamsize etc seems to be copied form the source as opposed to reading it from the new track.

    



    Essentially I want to copy the source video, audio and subtitles and also create an AAC version of the soundtrack for playback on devices that don't support HD audio.

    



    Below is an example of what I am doing :

    



    ffmpeg -i source.mkv -map_chapters 0 -map 0:v -c:v copy -c:s copy -map 0:a -c:a:0 copy -map 0:a c:a:1 aac destination.mkv

    As you can see the bit rate, stream size, etc is copied from the source track which is incorrect. I've tried the -map_metadata -1 but that removes the metadata without creating a new one and also removed it from all video and audio tracks which I don't want.

    



    Any other ideas what I am doing wrong or is this just a quirk of the software ?
